We are our thoughts, thus we become our thoughts: They create the landscape of our emotional and spiritual lives.
If we choose to empower negative thinking, our decisions and actions, the fruits of our own thoughts will follow suit resulting in perpetual unhappiness and misery in our lives. The same theory applies for the power of positive thinking except we garner the polar opposite with respect to the quality and nature of our emotional and spiritual existence.
It’s all about how we interact and deal with the way God makes our cookies crumble. We can only relish the fortune in the cookies if we appreciate their takeaways; are we perceptive and receptive to the wisdom of the holy spirit creatively illustrating itself in the intricacies of our developing personal legacies?
Are we going to pout over the broken glass of spilled milk and cracked plate of bitter herbs we have been served or take the few crumbs left on the table provided and bake a pie that will shake the pity out of our souls; show the world something so delightful and promising using one core, flourishing and nourishing ingredient: Faith.
You can be dealt a thousand blows or it may feel like you are getting pummeled with the raw end of the stick; but it takes one counter hook to turn things around. The best part is, Jesus is in your corner. It’s not only about getting out of the way so to help the grace of God fight your battles when you feel you are down for the count; it’s about realizing and having an unshakable conviction in the fact that there is no place for worry in God’s kingdom all in all and in the hear and now.
With faith the size of a mustard seed which is ginormous in the eyes of God, you can have peace in the truth that God has our backs.
Matthew 6:25-34 attests to this eloquently, beautifully and powerfully. In a nutshell, give or take, it says don’t waste precious time and energy worrying; it’s an exercise in futility with regards to our faith and emotional life and health. God loves us as we are and emphasizes our self worth and value through his eyes; he prioritizes human life; his beloved children. We have an elite stake in his grace and providence, and he knows exactly what we need to not only survive but thrive in this life and the next.
He puts first things first; gives us the focus point for a happier life in and through him: “seek His Kingdom and righteousness and these things will be given to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself . Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.” (Matthew 6:33-34)
First and foremost, there is only one way but up. Pain is transitory, fleeting and temporary; it serves a purpose with regards to our trajectory towards redemption and progress; it’s a rite of passage. It can be brutal, unforgiving and can come close to killing us on many levels; but God defeated the darkness of sin and human misery and supplanted and vanquished it completely when he rose from the dead. The troubles of today are the crosses we must bear in order to claim greater and more fulfilling victories.
Whatever happens, when we embrace and open ourselves up to the grace of God, latch on to him, believe in him at all costs, he comes through in abundance. No matter what-whatever life throws at you, seek the extravagant power of his kingdom; set your heart and mind on it and God will surprise you with ark size blessings and joy; and that is still an understatement if you can believe so.
We can either be weighed down by concerns, worries and all the various levels of overthinking that come as a result of the responsibilities, pressures, anxieties and challenges of our every day life or readjust the lens; fine tune it and establish a razor sharp focus on Christ. If we can manage to not be deterred, distracted and phased by the periphery of life’ absurdities and live for the kingdom, have the courage and intestinal fortitude to remain fixated on God, the father almighty no matter how tough it gets, well then, what can stand against us?
