Where does Your Hope Come from?

You can spend a preposterous amount of time reading all the self help books and attend the conferences and create vision boards that are noble peace price worthy; by all means proceed. A highly large amount of this stuff is good for you. By the same token, we can streamline a good majority of this material and narrow its prescriptions down to a few important ingredients; one of them is being able to muster up enough confidence to rock your own world-shake your mountains to the core.
The question is however, where does your confidence stem from? What is the wellspring of your drive, hope and perseverance?
For sure; develop your very own accountability team; probe your inner circle and nominate those motivation magnets that bring out the best in you; those spectacular individuals whom you look up to with great admiration.
At the same time and this is also supported by many of the better self help gurus, do you contemplate superseding the potential of those sources from the natural world with the mystery and authority of the supernatural?
To be more direct; are you looking to God and his word as the impetus behind your search for more confidence; is the Lord Jesus your primary and primordial go to for that ultimate pep talk and kick in the rear end that only he can deliver so powerfully and inimitably?
The Psalms are Your Palms
If I may be permitted in his good name to make a recommendation about where to start scripture and research wise when it comes to your confidence level, I look no further than the book of Psalms as the hub of inspiration-victory chants and feel good sign posts.
Psalms 16:8 professes: “I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” Psalms 59:16 builds on this by proclaiming “But I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and refuge in the day of my distress.”
Isaiah 26:4 only further supports this conviction and stance with “Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an ever lasting rock.”
That is some powerful stuff, don’t you think?
More importantly, what is all of this saying about not resigning our confidence to the mercy of our talents, plans, objectives and will but wholly to and strategically in the almighty grasp of God the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
Reckless Abandonment to the Stronghold of Faith
Our job is to plunge forward with all our fears, worries and grievances:
-Even when it does not make sense
-Even when you feel buried and dead
-Even when someone could not pay you to have hope
A leap of faith is about reckless abandonment.
When it comes to placing our confidence in God completely and unquestionably, it’s not about us: We are reckless with and in our faith; we give it all up to him for protection, guidance, wisdom and righteousness.
You may not know how, why, when or with whom it is going to happen, whether we are discussing a pursuit for that promotion, starting that business, improving your marriage or parenting skills, kicking that addiction, dealing with mental illness, forgiving grievous sins be it ones that others burden you with or with those you inflict on others etc…
That’s not your problem.
Leave the details to God and his unfolding of your life.
The question is do you trust God? Is he your confidence? That is where it starts and ends; period.
Do you have the humility to admit that you can’t embrace, acquire and relish in any greatness that is descending upon you without his grace and the miracles he and only he can permit?
Don’t get in your own way; a nourishing, purposeful and holy confidence is about being an open vessel; a vessel with its trap doors swung wide open for the holy spirit to come in and guide you in the discovery and growth of the skill and mind sets, attitude, drive, hope and fearlessness needed to be phenomenal in him for your complete advantage.
