News and views on all-things Muslim for April 27- May 4, 2015.

This week, between #BaltimoreUprising and Pamela Geller, it has been almost too much for me.  But I managed to find enough links to make you smile and maybe even laugh (I hope).

I give to you newsworthy links I think you should know about. Check out the links and please let me know if you think I should add anything

News About Muslims:

CEHx5ChWEAA9A4A

On Sunday, May 2, 2 gunmen killed outside Mohammed ‘art event’ in Texas. So Pamela Geller hosted a controversial Mohammed art event dedicated to “free speech”. Two gunmen have been shot and killed in a parking lot outside a venue in Garland, Texas that had been. Sigh.

More needless deaths. US-led air strike in Syria accidentally kills 52 civilians. The air raid mistakenly struck civilians in a village in Aleppo.

I don’t know if this is about “Muslims” but Senior female ISIS agent unmasked and traced to Seattle. @_UmmWaqqas (Twitter) was revealed to have been set up and operated by Rawdah Abdisalaam, a twenty-something female believed to be from Seattle.

Articles by Muslims:

The unfortunate incident in Texas has left us all feeling defeated and depressed. I read Don’t be fooled by Pamela Geller by Haroon Mohgul and immediately felt better.  This line says it all: “After the attack, she didn’t call for dialogue, for understanding, for bringing people together, which is what real leaders do.”

An astute piece by Muna Mire. Please read Towards a Black Muslim Ontology of Resistance when you can. Excerpt: “The reality for today’s Black Muslims is bifurcated into a war fought on two fronts: a battle with one’s own community to be seen and respected as well as a battle to resist targeted state and vigilante violence.”

Ahmed Ali Akbar writes a hilarious Buzzfeed article called 24 Times Muslims On The Internet Told It Like It Is. This list is perfect when feeling overwhelmed by negative news. Click on the link- you will be glad you did.

Cool Muslim Stories:

A beautiful Tribute in The New Yorker: The Life and Death of Sabeen Mahmud. After her murder, the Pakistani activist Sabeen Mahmud is being remembered for her fearlessness. Her friends say that her bravery was motivated by love.

Must Watch Videos of the Week:

Amani Al-Khatahtbeh takes on Alan Dershowitz after he said only radical Muslims ‘threaten’ speech and it was awesome.
