Can you believe we are already halfway thru June?
Only 2 weeks until our school starts back and I feel like my days are racing away from me, so when I got some Happy Mail the other day, it make me smile!
Last month, I revealed my DIY Farmhouse Apron with the yummy fabric I received from Thistlewood Farm’s ‘Sweet Tea’ Fabric Line made by Hoffman Fabrics as their Sweet Tea Embassador. I gushed and gushed about how lovely the fabric was.
Well, this month was equally as swoony!
The colors of this fabric are so pretty and feminine. It was like a welcome of loveliness to help me escape from my stinky, testosterone-filled home.
It was a Calgon – take me away kinda moment!
It was swirly, twirly beauty in a box. KariAnne has continued to amaze me with this incredible fabric line.
And can I gush for a moment? Look at the goodies she included in the box!

Each box KariAnne has sent has been filled with other treats to spoil her ambassadors, like these sweet sticky notes, clips and note cards. One good thing about living in a house of all boys is that ALL this girliness is mine!! I don’t have to share!
So, after seeing this box of beauty, I instantly knew what I was going to create.
Y’all know I LOVE coffee.
Like, secretly talk to my cup in the morning kind of love. And I love to wrap my mugs in knit coffee cozies like these and these.
However… I have never tried to sew a cozy, so I had to do a bit of sleuthing. I followed this excellent tutorial from Nori at Love 2 Create, but I wanted to give it some pizazz, so I decided to use the gorgeous fabric as a template for embroidery.

Year ago, in a Martha Stewart magazine, I saw how they took patterned fabric and added stitching to the flowers and leaves and the result was stunning!

I hadn’t embroidered anything since I was 12 with a kit my grandmother gave me, so I cut a practice piece to refresh my skills. Once I felt the rust was dusted off, I started on the cozy.
First, I took an old cardboard coffee cozy and used it as a template to trace the areas I would be stitching.
It’s such a small area, I had the piece finished in one evening.
Next was sewing, but being the novice that I am, I won’t share my scary sewing skills, so refer to Nori’s blog for a better tutorial.
Let’s just say that I’m really thankful for a seam ripper!
So I’m going to fast forward to the reveal.
Isn’t it just darling?!
Here’s how it looks laid flat.
The fabric is beautiful enough and I didn’t want the entire thing covered in stitching, but wanted to give it enough to see that beautiful pattern pop. And the texture gives it an extra grippiness.
I lined the inside with the coordinating fabric and love how feminine it is!
Per the instructions, the cozy closed with a button and a pony tail holder. For the button, I chose a simple pearly flower.
I am so thrilled with how it turned out! Be sure to head over to Jill’s at Sew a Fine Seam and Allison’s at Woodberry Way to see what they created this month.
So what do you think? I’d love to hear your comments below – they mean so much! You can click the picture below to find the Sweet Tea Fabric Line in your area.
And don’t forget to follow me to see what I make with next month’s batch.
I share with these wonderful people.
