Blessing water is super easy to make, and very versatile to use. All you need are a few supplies, a modicum of patience, and some creativity in your visions for yourself and your life. 2020 is about to come to a close in roughly a month. Now is as good a time as any to look forward to what we want to create for ourselves in the coming year, and to make some blessing water to move it along.

To bless means “to consecrate.” It comes from the Proto-Germanic word “blodison” which means “hallow with blood,” in reference to ancient altars that were consecrated with blood to make them holy. In late Old English it took on the meaning of “to make happy or prosperous,” resulting from its resemblance to the word “bliss.”

There are variety of ways to use blessing water. You can anoint your home with it, use it to feed spirit bags, use it in spells, for baptisms, in floor washes, and many other ways. The sky is basically the limit.

Before doing any work, make sure you have cleansed yourself, your tools, your work space, fed your ancestors, and called upon their protection.

What you need to create blessing water:

Place the Jericho Rose in a shallow bowl of water so that only the roots are submerged in the water. Speak to the plant and say “as you unfurl, so do my blessings.” Add fresh water to the bowl every day for seven days. On the 7th day, remove the plant and transfer the water into a cleansed jar.

You can incorporate the moon phases with this work, especially if you want to use the blessing water for healing, though working with the phases of the moon is not necessary. To incorporate the moon’s energy begin this work 7 days before the full moon. On the night of the full moon, place the jar of water under its light overnight.
