You knew deep down you were never going to win, but you had a small glimmer of hope. As the hours crept forward that hope bloated into a full-blown fantasy, and you’d spent half of the jackpot already before you crashed back to reality late last night. You didn’t win the Mega Millions lottery.

Now it’s back to reality. Back to the drudgery. All those problems that you were sure would be solved with 1.6 billion dollars are still staring you in the face. As tempted as you might be to be jealous of the winner, don’t be. Money never solves all of your problems. It simply gives you a different (and bigger) set of problems. It’s been well documented that winning the lottery can actually be a curse. Small cracks in your relationships turn into gaping fissures. Addictions can have free rein. Families can be splintered and ruined. Winning the lottery for most simply allows you to fail bigger in life.

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:9-10

By missing out on access to an ungodly amount of money with zero accountability, you were just spared from a whole world of grief and heartache. Count your blessings today. Your dreams of having life handed to you on a platter have been dashed. You’ll have to work now for what you want. So go work for it. As much as you were convinced that winning the lottery would solve everything, it wouldn’t have. Go out there and earn the life you want. That’s how God intended it.
