It’s Hump Day
Last updated on: August 17, 2011 at 8:45 am By Kristina ElSayed
Last week was a flurry of planning and baking and cooking and fetching and running from here to there. We were blessed this year to be able to sponsor an Iftar dinner in our community. Last year, the first year, we actively participated in the menu planning, the micromanaging, the driving everyone at the Mosque insane…and ended up with not enough food. This year, we relaxed a little on the external obsessing and just let our craziness unleash on what... Read more

I am honored to share with you, that I was featured as this Saturday’s business spotlight on Muslimahs Working At Home. Is it Back To School Already?
Last updated on: August 12, 2011 at 9:00 am By Kristina ElSayed
While many of my friends and family have already returned to school, or are preparing to return next week, I have the luxury of saying that I don’t have to start thinking about that just yet. I have had the supply lists since last month and they are here, hanging on the side of my not so neat and tidy desk. But I am in the BTS denial mode. If I don’t buy the supplies, it won’t happen so... Read more

Eid Gifts
Last updated on: August 10, 2011 at 11:45 am By Kristina ElSayed
Today is the 10th day of Ramadan, and my mind has shifted forward to preparations for the Eid. I would love to be in Egypt with our family there and celebrate together, but we don’t have the green light to travel just yet. I have been looking for Egyptian Style dresses for my daughters online and have come up empty-handed. They have dresses that they love to wear from the last time my Sister in Law was here, but they... Read more

United Cakes of America
Last updated on: August 8, 2011 at 10:49 pm By Kristina ElSayed
Over the last few days we have been making Panini sandwiches out of whatever meat is cooked in the house, layering it with sautéed onion and red pepper, turkey bacon and havarti cheese. Last night, we killed the batch of cookies that was made on Saturday so we cracked open our brand new cookbook and DD#1 chose the cake we baked. Last month we were blessed to have a long time friend come and visit us during her summer vacation... Read more

Ramadan Reflections Imam Khalid Latif
Last updated on: August 7, 2011 at 6:55 pm By Kristina ElSayed
Today, I crashed. I was exhausted mentally, emotionally and physically. You are familiar with the crash…it happens right around the week before Christmas? Yeah, that’s what happened today. I woke this morning, grabbed the girls and went to Halaka and the topic today was really something so very pertinent, something I needed to know but didn’t really know that I needed to know. In the midst of these women who I don’t talk to on a regular basis, some of... Read more
