(Urdu print at bottom)

Main woh de chuki hoon

Jo vapas nahi le sakti:
Daulat to haasil karli,
Kirdaar nahi khareed sakti.

Log mere kapre chahte thay,
Maine apni haya hi dedi.
Woh gheebat sunna chahte thay,
Maine apni diyanat chordi.

Un ki dekhave ki ummeed
Meri aajzi ki qaatil thee.
Sood-o-qarz ne mujhe gher kar
Mujhse qabar khudvaadi thee-

Uss aazadi ki qabar
Jo meri kabhi thee hi nahi.
Main un ke ishaaron par
Zindagi bhar naachti rahi.

Kab tak in zanjeeron mein
Duniya mujhe bhagayegi?
Ab to chahte hue bhi
Mujhe faraar na karpayegi.

Main khud ki qaidi hoon-
Log madad kya karenge?
Magar riha hona chahoongi
To log kya kahenge?

Main aazadi chahti hoon

To log kehte hain,
“Aazadi humari hi khushi mein hai.”

Jab haasil harti hoon
To log kehte hain,
Mujhse kya kuch karvaadiya.
Apne kamzor zameer ko
Maine kab se sulaadiya.Iss andhere mein bhi
Ek ummeed ki kiran hai:
Duniya jahan chor de,
Wahan Rab mil jata hai.Kya mun dikhaoon use
Jo har haal mein saath raha?
Mujh jaise bevafa ko
Jeene ka naya maqsad diya.

Logon ka kaam hai bolna
Magar haqeeqat zaahir hai,
Jo dil ki khushi chahe
Woh sirf Rab ki sunta hai.

English translation:

I’ve already given
What I can’t take back:
I’ve acquired wealth,
But I can’t buy a good character.

People wanted my clothes,
I gave them my modesty.
They wanted to hear gossip (backbiting),
I dropped my uprightness.

Their expectation of showing off
Was what killed my humility.
Interest and loans surrounded me
And made me dig a grave-

The grave of that freedom
Which was never mine to begin with.
On their every tune / signal
I kept dancing, all my life. (i.e. I did everything they wanted me to do.)

How long, in these shackles
Will the world keep making me run?
Now, even if it wants to
It won’t be able to free me.

I’m my own prisoner,
How could people help me?
But if I want to escape,
Then what will people say?

If I want freedom
Then people say,
“Freedom is in our happiness.”

When I acquire it
Then people say,
“What’s the hurry to run away from this world?”

Society’s expectations
Made me do so much.
My weak conscience
Was put to sleep by me so long ago.

Even in this darkness
There’s a ray of hope.
Where the world leaves you,
You find the Lord.

How can I show my face
To the One who stayed with me through everything?
He gave a disloyal person like me
A new reason to live.

It’s people’s job to talk,
But the reality is clear:
Whoever wants true happiness in their heart
Only listens to their Master.
