Offering a Witness for our Sister Gina Colvin

Last updated on: December 12, 2018 at 12:48 am   By Natasha Helfer

The Mormon tradition has a long, beautiful history with the concept of being a “witness.” We are encouraged to be witnesses of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is seen as a second witness of Christ partnered with the Bible. We have official witnesses witnessing our sacred ceremonies such as baptisms and weddings. I would ask at this time of potential discipline of our dear sister, Gina Colvin (aka the Kiwi Mormon here on Patheos) where witnesses will be brought... Read more

Avoid the Relational 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Last updated on: November 27, 2018 at 1:57 pm   By Natasha Helfer

I often talk about avoiding the 4 horsemen of the relational apocalypse from the work of John Gottman. This is an excellent, short video explaining what the 4 horsemen look like: criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling. It also gives a few hints on how to avoid them. These 4 are responsible for much of marital demise… so let’s get to challenging them asap! Natasha Helfer Parker, LCMFT, CST can be reached at natashaparker.org and runs an online practice, Symmetry Solutions, which focuses on helping... Read more

Holiday Time Can be Difficult for Many

Last updated on: November 27, 2018 at 1:28 am   By Natasha Helfer

I appreciated this frank post I came across on Richard Dutcher’s facebook page. I agree… stay away from depressants when depressed… the holidays can be a difficult time for many… let’s stay cognizant of that reality as we go about our daily lives. Reach out to those you think or know are hurting. If you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts, please know you are wanted, needed and loved…. even if or when it doesn’t feel like it. There is help somewhere…... Read more
