A list of laws, rules, tips, techniques, and strategies do not a transformed heart make….Yes, we all have areas in our lives we want and need to change, but the only way that is going to happen is when we have a change of heart.

-Becoming Myself by Stasi Eldredge (pg19)

Isn’t that the truth? I have a vivid memory of my mom telling me to say I was sorry to my sister (who I had sinned against) and I informed my mother that I could not tell my sister I was sorry because I wasn’t sorry.

I was not a hard-hearted child, that came later in life, but I legitimately didn’t feel sorry. At the time I remember wishing I did, because I knew it would not go well with me by failing to comply, but I didn’t want to lie either. As an adult, I am the same way. I may will myself into following rules and regulations, but unless my heart really is into it, unless I can see the bigger picture, it always feels like a lie. So I pray. I pray that God changes my heart — and so far, He has.
