Quote of the Day

Last updated on: November 9, 2009 at 5:59 am   By Pat McNamara

When once one believes in as creed, one is proud of its complexity, as scientists are proud of the complexity of science. It shows how rich it is in its discoveries. If it is right at all, it is a compliment to say that it is elaborately right. A stick might fit a hole or a stone a hollow by accident. But a key and a lock are both complex. And if a key fits a lock, you know it’s... Read more

Book of the Week

Last updated on: November 9, 2009 at 5:57 am   By Pat McNamara

Redemptorists Founded, 1732

Last updated on: November 9, 2009 at 5:53 am   By Pat McNamara

On this day in 1732, St. Alphonsus Liguori founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in Scala, Italy. Alphonsus was moved by the plight of rural peasants in southern Italy to found a congregation “to follow Christ the Redeemer in preaching the Gospel to poor,” especially through parish missions and retreats. During St. Alphonsus’ time, these shepherds and country peasants were the most downtrodden group in society: “they were not considered men as other men…, they were the disgrace... Read more
