Gods & Spirits Are Not Correspondences

Last updated on: December 17, 2018 at 11:03 pm   By Mat Auryn

It's no wonder that I hear from many witches and pagans that they aren't sure if the gods and spirits are real. Most likely because they aren't really showing up in their rituals when they call upon them. Read more

Review: The Path of Paganism

Last updated on: September 27, 2017 at 1:59 pm   By Mat Auryn

John Beckett’s writing is always level-headed, humble, grounded, wise and insightful. So it was no surprise to me that his first book The Path of Paganism: An Experience-Based Guide to Modern Pagan Practice kept this same spirit. The book is divided into main areas of focus consisting of contemplating the foundation of what Paganism is, putting those beliefs into practice, having an intermediate practice that goes beyond the 101, stepping into leadership, priesthood and “what comes next” which has a... Read more

Review: The Phosphorous Grove

Last updated on: April 15, 2020 at 12:18 am   By Mat Auryn

Christopher Penczak’s The Phosphorous Grove: Aflame With Love Upon the Witch’s Tree is unlike any other book that he’s published. The book was originally limited to 50 hardcover copies that he would gift out as a thank you for fundraiser events and volunteer work at the Temple of Witchcraft. Four years later he’s now released it as an unlimited paperback. The book is a collection of prose of mystical verses. Christopher originally was going to have a career in music... Read more

The Bewitched Statue: An Open Letter

Last updated on: August 31, 2017 at 10:13 pm   By Mat Auryn

This is in response to Andrew Carr’s letter to the editor of the Salem News. Mr. Carr compared Confederate Soldiers to the statue of Samantha Stevens, a fictional character in the television series, Bewitched. He goes even further and compares it to having a statue of a clown and calling the city Clown City, referencing the “clown killer” John Wayne Gacy. Read more

Review: Hekate Her Sacred Fires

Last updated on: September 20, 2017 at 7:26 pm   By Mat Auryn

Let’s face it, most pagan anthologies suck. In most cases the only people who read pagan anthologies are those who contributed to them. Hekate Her Sacred Fires however, is not one of those anthologies and is still my favorite anthology to date. Edited by author Sorita d’Este, the founder of the Covenant of Hekate and the worldwide Rite of Her Sacred Fires, Sorita is considered a modern expert on the history and devotion of the goddess Hekate. The book features... Read more
