Review: Oracle of the Ancient Celts – The Dalriada

Last updated on: March 31, 2019 at 1:54 am   By Mat Auryn

Oracle of the Ancient Celts – The Dalriada is a gorgeous deck created by artist Maxine Miller, Raven Grimassi and Stephanie Taylor Grimassi. If you’re a pagan or a practicing witch there’s a good chance that you’re familiar with Maxine Miller’s art, particularly her wildly popular statues of pagan deities. There’s even a high probability that you or someone you know own her statuary. Raven & Stephanie Grimassi really need no introductions. As elders in Witchcraft and Paganism, Raven’s accomplishments and books alone are numerous and has had several well-known students such as Scott Cunningham and Donald Michael Kraig. Read more

Staying Weird With Hauntings, Magick, and Divination

Last updated on: April 5, 2019 at 2:54 pm   By Mat Auryn

I don’t know exactly what happened in those woods. I suspect the spirit of the deceased was upset about the condition of her grave, and I just happened to be sensitive enough to notice her plea for help since I was spending my free time meditating, learning trance, and working magic. Maybe it was the guardian of the graveyard reaching out for help. I really can’t give a solid answer, but I can say that place and experience have stuck with me all these years later as a great memory and influence on my work. Read more

What Marie Kondo Can Teach Witches About The Shadow

Last updated on: August 2, 2019 at 4:35 pm   By Mat Auryn

Marie Kondo is someone whom I absolutely adore. She's a former Shinto priestess and her Netflix show is amazing, particularly because she's bringing awareness of animism to people in America, who wouldn't normally think about talking to the Spirit of Place or viewing objects as entities. Researching Marie's history, I realized she is the perfect example of how I will illustrate how Shadow work should be approached from a Jungian & Witchcraft point of view. Read more

How I Work With The Gods & Might Possibly Worship Them Too

Last updated on: August 2, 2019 at 4:36 pm   By Mat Auryn

When meditating on how to explain my relationship with gods, the best example I could come up with is my relationship with Laura Tempest Zakroff. So in the following, Tempest will be a magickal creature that I call a goddess (which isn't that far-fetched honestly). Read more

Review: Keeping Her Keys

Last updated on: August 1, 2019 at 11:26 pm   By Mat Auryn

Through keeping one foot firmly planted in historical pagan context and one foot in modern witchcraft, Brannen presents something very special with this work - a relationship to Hekate that is alive, evolving, and approachable. Read more

Review: Stones of the Goddess

Last updated on: August 1, 2019 at 11:27 pm   By Mat Auryn

What's refreshing about Pearson as an author is that he doesn’t just regurgitate information because a previous book wrote it, but instead understands the geographical and geological reasons why stones have the energies that they do and how they can assist us. Read more

Review: The Witch’s Book of Mysteries

Last updated on: April 15, 2020 at 12:08 am   By Mat Auryn

The closest any book has come to the material in this book are Sabbatic Grimoires intentionally written in convoluted poetic and archaic language to veil the information that is being presented on a surface level. Devin’s work in this book touches upon the same essence of those guarded mysteries in a much more approachable and understandable manner than those works. If you are serious about your witchcraft practice and are ready to take the next step in your experiences and training, there is no better book on the market that I could recommend you can get your hands on Read more

Review: Mildred Payne’s Oracle of Black Enchantment

Last updated on: February 1, 2019 at 9:55 pm   By Mat Auryn

While Patrick Valenza is best known for his Deviant Moon tarot, his best offerings tend to be his indie self-published decks. Mildred Payne's Oracle of Black Enchantment is a prime example. The deck continues the fantastic story that Valenza has woven about the fictional witch Mildred Payne. The story he provides is that this oracle was found in her coffin and was created in 1933 against the wishes of the Fenwood Coven. Read more
