In the tradition of witchcraft I am initiated into, The Sacred Fires Tradition, one of the first things we learn is the concept of the “home frequency.” It is one of the single most powerful concepts that has changed my magick and my life. Every person’s home frequency is different. To understand the name a bit more, it’s the frequency in which you should be living your life from. It is where we always return to, regardless of our life or magickal activities.

The concept is partially similar to the concept of being centered, though centering has different definitions depending on the context used (and often confused by folks). However, the concept is more than simply being centered. It’s understanding your state of wholeness and wellness, particularly when it comes to aspects of occultism and metaphysics. This concept is so crucial, that it’s shared publicly in The Witch’s Book of Power by Devin Hunter.

Just as Devin writes in The Witch’s Book of Power, the home frequency is a state where we have all our inner tools at our disposal. It isn’t merely a temporary frequency that you put yourself into so that you can perform magick, rather it’s a state of living magickally itself. It isn’t about enchanting the self, it’s returning to our own preternatural state of enchantment. It is our natural state of miracle working and manifestation.

As psychics and mediums, it’s our home base in a sense. What I mean by that is that by understanding what our own home frequency is we are able to orient ourselves and our environment. We have an understanding of when ourselves, or our environment are off or different because we understand where we should be. This gives us the ability to compare and contrast, as well as the potential of altering or fixing the situation. It allows us to understand when we need to shift our own energy.

As witches, it’s our launching point for the purposes of shifting into different states of consciousness, navigating the non-physical planes, interacting with spirits, and performing conscious acts of magick. As humans, it’s a core component to well-being, peace, and stability. It also provides a daily form of protection. It’s protective because you can discern what is your own energy and push out everything that isn’t your own. Though, this isn’t to say that you should neglect other forms of protection, especially as a magickal practitioner.
