One of the more perceptive things Leviticus has to say is that a faithless people is going to be a deeply fearful people:
“And as for those of you that are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; the sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall when none pursues. They shall stumble over one another, as if to escape a sword, though none pursues; and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.” (Le 26:36–37).
Our response to ebola should be a recovery of trust in God. Because it’s not ultimately the disease that is frightening us. It is we who are frightening ourselves because we are accepting the lie that God either is not there or does not care and we are left to our own devices to save ourselves. This is a disease that has killed fewer people on our shores than Rush Limbaugh has ex-wives and we are treating it like the Black Death.
Stop. Turn to God. Make an act of trust in him. Then turn your bewitched eyes away from the Media Panic Machine and do something good as an offering to Him.
