A reader who has asked for prayer in the past writes:

I am not quite sure how to say this but I know I need prayer in a desperate way. This past week the depression has gotten so dark and so heavy that yesterday, I made a plan to end my life and was in the process of getting ready to get the necessary items from around our house. If I didn’t already believe in God and divine intervention, I would today. Just seconds after I made my decision, my best girlfriend sent me a text inviting me to bring our kids to her place for a play date. Her invitation saved my life as it broke through the darkness and reconnected me with sanity and reality. I accepted her invitation and instead of my children being left alone by a dead mother, they spent the afternoon playing with a friend while my girlfriend and I talked about everything that had happened (among other things) and made dinner plans together for the evening.

My husband met us at her house and after dinner we left for home. He and I talked until very late and we have decided that no matter what it costs for childcare, I need to go back to that intensive outpatient program again and without delay. I have an appointment with my therapist this Tuesday and my husband is planning to go with me so that he can meet my therapist and we can talk together about what has been going on and my treatment plan.

Please pray for me, my husband and or family as well as my therapist and doctors that we will have wisdom and strength for the days ahead. Please pray for me that the glimmer of hope I feel now will remain with me and that I will make it through the next few days while we work out the details for my treatment. Thank you so much for all your prayers and those of your readers. I am grateful to all of you beyond words. God bless you abundantly.

Father, hear our prayer that you Name be glorified by this woman’s healing in body, soul and spirit. We bless you and thank you for intervening to save her life. Grant her healing and hear her prayers for effective healing and excellent care from her caregivers. Give them grace, wisdom, understanding, skill, and compassion. Cover also their financial needs. Give grace, strength, faith, and hope to her husband and her children And let this terrible cross be lifted and her healing become a source of healing for many others. Mother Mary, St. Luke and St. Dymphna, pray for her, her caregivers, and all who love her. We ask all this through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Another reader writes:

I wrote to you twice about 5-6 months ago asking for prayers for my grandfather, who has lung cancer. I’d like to ask once more, and thank you and everyone who has prayed for him. For a long time things looked like they were getting better, even considerably better. He survived an overdose of chemotherapy and slowly regained his strength.
Now, unexpectedly, the situation has plummeted again. Apparently he can’t even breath on his own. We can’t know for sure until test results on Tuesday, but things seem grim, and now it’s not certain if we can go to visit them this summer.
Please, I would be very happy if you and your readers could say a prayer for my grandfather and grandmother. After such a rollercoaster of news, I’d especially ask for prayers to help them keep despair at bay.
Thank you very, very much.

Father, we ask that your perfect will would be done here and that you would give everyone concerned here the grace of the Holy Spirit to live the virtues of faith, hope, and love. Give them and all who love them peace and consolation. Give grace, skill, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and compassion to their caregivers. Mother Mary, St. Luke, and St. Peregrine, pray for all concerned. We ask all this through Christ our Lord. Amen!
