A reader writes:

Pax Tecum!

I need prayer. At the end of October, I suffered a stroke and me, the picture of health, quite low pressure, dont’s smoke or drink but the clot originated in my heart, which has a previously undiscovered hole in the septum, an undetected birth defect. On December 18, my cardiologist is going to go into my thigh and up the vena cava into my heart and repair that hole so that I don’t have any more strokes, I”m still at a pretty high risk of having another stroke. The surgery is a heck of a lot safer and less painful than open heart surgery, but there are no guarantees in life that anything is 100% safe, even if it is safer than the alternative. I’m still a little nervous about the doctor tinkering with my ticker. I am at greater risk for dying of a stroke than I am dying during the surgery or after and that is another sobering thought. But there are always fears of infections or the little device they will use to plug the hole in the septum slipping and causing problems. I’ll be hospitalized for two days after the surgery to cope with those ‘just in case’ problems.”

I have two little guys and six big ones that need their mama. I will be going to my priest for confession and asking for the last rites before surgery just in case things don’t go so well between the doctor and my heart at least they will go well between my Lord and I.

My daughter, for whom I asked for prayer last time I emailed, still doesn’t have a job, but she’s looking for real now, which is a step in the right direction. She’s running out of money and the student loan folks are calling and she realizes she has to make this a priority. She is also becoming more readily involved in family activities, so there is less concern about depression as there was before. She seems to be in a good place right now mentally. I’m grateful for the prayer. God is so good.

I appreciate the prayer! A Mama of many nerdlings.

Father, hear our prayer for my reader’s complete healing and for protection from all harm. Surround her with your angels, give wisdom, skill and compassion to her caregivers, and give grace, peace and strength to her and all who love her. And thank you for your grace at work in her daughter’s life. Mother Mary and St. Luke, pray for her. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
