A reader writes:

Mark, would you please pray and ask your wonderful readers to pray for my husband? He is a quadriplegic and has a pressure sore. It wasn’t healing and was rapidly worsening so he went to surgery two days ago. The surgeon fears it is necrotizing fasciitis, which is the serious name for that horrible flesh-eating bacteria. He seems stable now but the nurse said that the next few days will show what we’re up against. We have 6 adopted children, 5 of whom are at home still. Our youngest is only 10. Please storm Heaven for his healing, and that his infection is NOT what the surgeon suspects. I keep repeating “Jesus, I trust in You.” Join me? Thanks with all my heart.=

Father, hear our prayer that he be delivered from this illness and the infection be completely healed. Grant peace, grace, and strength to all who love him. Mother Mary and St. Luke, pray for him. We ask this through Jesus Christ. Jesus, I trust in you.

Another reader writes from the UK:

There has been a long and hard debate in the London borough of Richmond over the establishment of a Catholic secondary school. Richmond borough is one of only two London boroughs that do not have a secondary school despite having 6 primary schools , meaning that in year 7 the 200-300 children have to travel out of borough (some making very long journeys) to reach a catholic secondary school every day (nearly 1,000 in total from yr7 -yr11). The situation is every year becoming more difficult and the diocese have predicted that in only a few short years it will become impossible for many Richmond Catholic children to attend an out of borough Catholic secondary as Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith boroughs are all going through huge surges in birth rates and there has been increased demand with our new Polish communities needing catholic places also.

The council have promised for many years to establish a catholic secondary school in the borough and have found a site. There is however huge local opposition from a local group of parents and some humanists. Next week on the 24th May a final decision will be made by the council on whether or not to accept the proposal for a Catholic school made by the diocese. There is however still a threat as the local opposition group in partnership with the British humanist association are threatening to fund a judicial review to try to overturn the councils decision. This obviously has implications for all faith schools as the BHA has openly stated that they want to see an end to faith schools nationally.

It is really important to pray for this school. We are asking that all mums please join us in prayer wherever you are at around 8pm tomorrow (Friday) night to pray for this intention and to pray for the future of this school. Some mothers will be saying the rosary at this time but any prayer for this intention would be wonderful. A Catholic school is so important to catholic families so please pray that this one will be firmly routed in God and greatly blessed and support our young people in growing a strong faith.

Next week too it would be great if you could take a minute again sometime around 7pm to pray for this intention once more and the councillors making the final decision.

Please ask other Catholic mothers to pray too if they feel strong support for this school. You are welcome to cut and paste this e mail into a new e mail (just to avoid circulating everyones personal details)

Father, hear our prayer that the school succeed, through Christ our Lord. Mother Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for them. Amen!
