Poor, poor Ned Resnikoff. He’s just so scared of plumbers with southern accents because that might mean he will have to interact with a Trump supporter and that could be, well, dangerous?
When he’s not paralyzed by his irrational fear of Republican roto rooters, Resnikoff is the editor of ThinkProgress, an ultra-left-wing outlet which apparently drives employees to the outer brinks of insanity.
It was the Saturday after the most triggering election for liberals in history when Resnikoff came face to face with the unthinkable: a potential — POTENTIAL — Trump supporter. A “middle-aged white man with a southern accent” showed up to his apartment to unclog a drain. (Hmm, he summoned a plumber because Drano and a $10 snake might ruin his manicure?) Resnikoff wrote about his harrowing experience on Facebook:
“Wanted to share an experience from earlier today. This afternoon, I had a plumber over to my apartment to fix a clogged drain. He was a perfectly nice guy and a consummate professional. But he was also a middle-aged white man with a southern accent who seemed unperturbed by this week’s news. And while I had him in the apartment, I couldn’t stop thinking about whether he had voted for Trump, whether he knew my last name is Jewish, and how that knowledge might change the interaction we were having inside my own home.”
Was it the Nazi rag he was using to wipe his tools that gave him away??
“I have no real reason to believe he was a Trump supporter or an anti-Semite,” Resnikoff continued, “but in my uncertainty I couldn’t shake the sense of potential danger. I was rattled for some time after he left.”
Wow. So much stereotyping and discrimination for someone who constantly lectures against those practices.
But the feeling of danger is foreign to the editor because he is “a straight, white guy” and has a “pretty WASP-y” name. That explains it.
That explains it.
And check out his rosy predictions for the future:
“But today was a reminder that ambiguous social interactions now feel unsafe and unpredictable in a way that they never did before. And even if Trump is gone in four years, I don’t expect to ever reclaim that feeling of security. That’s just one more thing you voted for, if you voted for Trump.”
Perhaps Resnikoff should consider moving; not to Canada, but to the progressive utopia parodied on Saturday Night Live called, “The Bubble.” That might serve his delicate sensibilities much better.
