Not a Fan of Mosquitoes? Then Get a Fan! 2015-03-13T15:29:33-05:00 Mark D. Roberts

Tired of being consumed by mosquitoes?

Looking for some way to keep them from having dinner at your expense?

Rather not cover your skin with oily mosquito repellent?

Might be overkill! Photo from http://www.flickr.com/photos/twon/2220924554/lightbox/

If you answered “yes” to these questions, then Williams J. Broad has a suggestion for you. In his recent New York Times article, “A Low-Tech Mosquito Deterrent,” Broad explains that you can keep the mosquitoes at bay by using a simple fan. That’s right. Let the fan blow on you and the mosquitoes will look elsewhere for cheap drinks.

Why is this true? Partly, mosquitoes are not strong flyers, and a fan will keep them away. Partly, the things that attract mosquitoes to your warm body will be dispersed by blowing air. For more details, see Broad’s article.

With lots of blessed rain in the Texas Hill Country this summer, I’ve been fighting mosquitoes more than ever before. I’ve been testing the fan theory in the couple of evenings with mixed results. I think it helps, but it’s not a perfect solution. Perhaps I need a bigger fan.

If you lose the first battle and get mosquito bites, there is hope! See my article, “A Miraculous Cure for Bug Bite Itching? This Remedy Really Works!” If you think I’m exaggerating, check out the grateful comments. not to mention over 40,000 shares of this article.
