We live, we die, then what?

The answer to that question should frame all of our life. As I write this daily devotion, I am sitting at an airport in Austin, Texas. Surrounding me are people who have architected their entire day to get to a desired destination. Some awoke early, others cancelled meetings to make a flight, and still others like me are adjusting their planned schedule to accommodate a flight delay. The point is simple – when you have a place you want to be, you do whatever it takes to make it to that place.

For the Christian, Paul is  writing while under arrest and tells us in Philippians 1:21-23 that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain…My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better”. You are one person in two parts. When your body goes into the ground, your soul goes into the presence of God.

At some point, your body and soul will be reunited at the resurrection. The same Jesus who rose from death, will return to call you forth from your grave to be with Him and like Him forever. Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:20-21 that “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

When Jesus is done, He will undo that which sin has done. No one will be sick or sad, hungry or haunted, rebellious or religious. Knowing that day is coming, we should spend far more energy to prepare ourselves for that journey than any other journey we take.

What about your resurrection body/health are you most excited for?
