The Non-Clickbait Article on Deconstruction

Last updated on: March 29, 2022 at 9:17 am By Maria Francesca French

Between John Cooper, The Gospel Coalition and whatever Progressive Christian writer feels like they want to have the sexiest and most provocative title that week, can any of us ever have an honest conversation about true deconstruction? The current dialogue on deconstruction that has been had mostly via online and social media platforms is a vitriolic one. And I get it. A whole generation of people who invested their time, money, energy, relationships – in short, their lives(!), in a... Read more

The Hope of god in a Post God World

Last updated on: March 29, 2022 at 9:21 am By Maria Francesca French

God finds god’s self in quite the precarious position these days, and everyone knows it. Christians are finding themselves full of nervous angst and heartbreak at what the future might hold regarding belief in God and those identifying as Christians. For better or worse, our world stands on a particular knowledge of... Read more

Last updated on: March 29, 2022 at 9:21 am By Maria Francesca French

Last week I published my first column here on Patheos, “Our Journey Starts in Paris: A Post Christian Question,” in which I spoke about imminence over transcendence. I, of course, posted the link wherever I thought was appropriate, which included a few theological Facebook groups I’m a part of. A question emerged from one group in particular, and it was a good question at that, and one I’m glad was raised. She asked if I had meant immanence rather than... Read more

Our Journey Starts in Paris: A Post Christian Question

Last updated on: March 15, 2022 at 10:07 am By Maria Francesca French

Today, I am writing to you from Paris for my inaugural post. Is it a cliché to write in Paris, from Paris? I mean, what connection does the modern and postmodern predicament of Christianity have in common with Paris? Christianity is sold on its supposed fundamental promise of transcendence, but Paris is the winner when it comes to the ability to transcend. Paris thrives on its transcendence, and Christianity’s claim to transcendence has killed it. We want escapism from our... Read more
