Ask your doctor if getting off your butt is right for you

Last updated on: December 28, 2020 at 4:01 pm By Rob Giannamore

As 2020 comes to a close, let us reflect on the year. COVID-19 has really taken a toll on my training, yet I managed to maintain a full training schedule. My usual nine month schedule was quickly reduced to 7 weeks, from September to November. The original line up for scheduled events looked like this: Winter Beast of Burden 25 miler – completed. Lockport, NY. It was cold as hell. 17 degrees for most of the day. Ankle deep snow,... Read more

Parenting and Covid – 19

Last updated on: December 20, 2020 at 8:54 pm By Rob Giannamore

I see a lot of clients in my practice as an outpatient mental health therapist. My primary speciality and something that I have done for the majority of my career as a therapist and a minister was working with kids and teenagers. I am well versed in childhood development. The Corona virus or SARS COV 2 has taken over our lives in 2020 and has moved my face to face practice to online. This has gotten me thinking a lot... Read more

Equanimity – a more Christian Perspective

Last updated on: December 3, 2020 at 12:52 pm By Rob Giannamore

It definitely is not mile 1 or even mile 5 for that matter. Maybe it is mile 16 or maybe it is mile 23, but whatever mile it is, it is not the first. And my legs hurt, my feet hurt, I haven’t eaten a full meal in 3-4 hours, in fact I can’t eat anything right now because it immediately makes me want to go find a tree. I find myself questioning why I signed up for this race.... Read more

Last updated on: November 26, 2020 at 6:38 pm By Rob Giannamore

Well, it was not what we hoped for and the year has been a hassle, but to support our local running club, I did the virtual Turkey Trot. It was desolate this morning and there was not the usual Thanksgiving energy with 4000 or so people missing. Here is hoping for a live race in 2021. Read more

Depression, a Serotonin Deficiency Problem

Last updated on: November 23, 2020 at 8:12 pm By Rob Giannamore

When I meet a client for the first time, I am curious about the presenting problem, but from a “why” perspective. Our society is obsessed with labels and many of my clients want to know what is wrong with them and how I can fix it. Depression, Anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD/ ADD) all have a function behind it. In some cases, the presentation of these problems are environmental, genetic or even family culture/ developmental. In this post,... Read more

Shoveling snow

Last updated on: November 23, 2020 at 5:48 pm By Rob Giannamore

It has been a mild autumn, many warm days with beautiful autumnal colors leading into a bit of a cloudier and less colorful November. We have had our first snowfall and it was not much to write home about. In a couple weeks, or sooner, it is going to happen. It is really going to snow. In years past, we have gotten up to 112 inches. That’s a lot of snow. If you don’t have a snow removal service or... Read more

Let food be thy medicine

Last updated on: November 23, 2020 at 3:40 pm By Rob Giannamore

Hippocrates once said “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. We are coming up to a busy time in the year for food consumption and then the subsequent New Years resolution to lose it all. Let’s think for a moment, what was Hippocrates thinking when he offered these words. First of, it is believed that Hippocrates did not actually say this, much like many other famous quotes. It is believed that Hippocrates did view nutrition in high... Read more
