I assume post people are familiar with the “what have the Romans ever done for us” scene from Monty Python’s Life of Bryan. You know, the one that ends with: “All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?”

The video in the tweet above simply takes that scene and overlays it with new dialogue, to make it relevant to our present situation. Here’s a transcription of the new dialogue:

Well sure it looks bad. But what did Obama ever do to stop this?

Created the Directorate for Global Health Security?

Who?

We disbanded it in 2018. They were responsible for preventing pandemics.

Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that’s true. Yeah

And they wrote a pandemic response playbook.

Oh, yeah, the playbook. Following that would have saved a lot of time if we hadn’t lost it.

Alright alright, but apart from the team and the playbook-

The CDC expert stationed in Beijing?

Oh man, they’d have been so useful.

The transition team training exercise?

They literally trained us how to respond to a pandemic. Too bad we fired everyone who participated for disloyalty.

All right, but apart from the pandemic response team, the pandemic playbook, the CDC expert in China, and the transition training scenario literally involving a mock pandemic, what did Obama ever do to stop this?

Obamacare?

Yeah, that’s about my mood today. I’m just. Tired. I’m tired.
