Saturday Link Live: Freebirth, Eugenics, and the Center 2020-02-22T19:56:36-04:00 Libby Anne

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Saturday Link Love is a feature where I collect and post links to various articles I’ve come upon over the past week. Feel free to share any interesting articles you’ve come along as well! The more the merrier!

I brainwashed myself with the internet, on NBC News—“Nearly 45 weeks pregnant, she wanted a “freebirth” with no doctors. Online groups convinced her it would be OK.”

Richard Dawkins Claims Eugenics Works. He’s Wrong, on Skepchick—“People who make arguments like Dawkins is making are fond of saying that they are just elevating ‘facts’ over ‘feelings’ as an intellectual exercise, but in fact, they are not. They are actually elevating ‘facts’ over ‘other, more complex, inconvenient facts.'”

The Center Blows Itself Up: Care and Spite in the ‘Brexit Election’, New York Review of Books—“Politics, in wealthy countries, is increasingly becoming a war between the generations.”

The Internet Is a Toxic Hellscape—but We Can Fix It, on Wired—“The emotional distress caused by so much anxiety is difficult, of course, and I’m sorry for it. But its presence speaks to the news media’s willingness—finally—to take seriously the questions that have been waived off for far too long.”

The breathtaking hypocrisy of howls for “rule of law”, on Policy Options—“For most of Canada’s history, the rule of law has been openly flouted when it comes to Indigenous land and rights.”

Youth are most affected by policies, so let them vote, on The Star—“In reality, today’s 16-year-old probably has the policy sophistication of an 18-year-old half a century ago.”

Building a Better Warrenism, on the Niskanen Center—“As far as I can tell, what Elizabeth Warren wants is the kind of democracy and market economy she thought we had when she was a Republican, but was scandalized to discover we didn’t have, thanks to the undue influence of self-dealing moneyed interests in the policymaking process.” Note: This article is written by an author who is anti-Bernie. While Warren is my candidate, I am not anti-Bernie. I share this article because I found its perspective interesting.
