Which Vision Forum Did Doug Phillips Resign From?

Which Vision Forum Did Doug Phillips Resign From? 2013-11-02T00:22:03-04:00 Libby Anne

On October 30, Doug Phillips resigned from Vision Forum Ministries. But Vision Forum actually has two arms: Vision Forum Ministries, a non-profit,  and Vision Forum Inc., a for-profit corporation. Here is what Phillips wrote specifically:

With thanksgiving to God for His mercy and love, I have stepped down from the office of president at Vision Forum Ministries and have discontinued my speaking responsibilities.

Doug Phillips very clearly and intentionally stated that he resigned from Vision Forum Ministries. From all appearances, he is still president of Vision Forum Inc. It also seems that Phillips is continuing to serve as a leader in his church, Boerne Christian Assembly. And indeed, Phillips is still posting on his Vision Forum Inc. blog.

Now sure, it could be that Phillips is actually stepping down from Vision Forum Inc. and Boerne Christian Assembly, and it could be that the post up today on his Vision Forum Inc. blog was already scheduled for posting before Phillips released his apology. But if this is the case, Phillips needs to act. He needs to make it clear that he is also stepping down from Vision Forum Inc. and Boerne Christian Assembly, something he has not done, and he needs to announce these things on his Vision Forum Inc. blog, which has yet to even mention his resignation from Vision Forum Ministries.

Why do I care? For one thing, because it is wrong to go behind your spouse’s back and form a romantic extramarital relationship without either your spouse’s knowledge or consent. But more than that, because Phillips has spent decades preaching doctrines that cause real harm to men, women, and children. And now it turns out that his entire act was a lie and that he betrayed the very principles he was preaching. Indeed, this arguably happened as a result of the ideology he was preaching, and not in spite of it. Phillips needs to be held accountable for the damage he has done to the men, women, and children who have followed his teachings.

Indeed, unless Phillips steps down from Vision Forum Inc. and Boerne Christian Assembly, his resignation from Vision Forum Ministries is nothing but a charade and damage control. If he continues as president of the corporate wing of Vision Forum and as a church leader in his local congregation, his supposed repentance is hollow and a lie. And what’s odd is that no one seems to have noticed any of this or to have called any of it out.
