I have been offline a lot the past few days.
Frankly, I’ve been unplugged in general as we move my youngest back in at college. In a way, there is tremendous comfort in doing things like unpacking boxes of books and laundering musty comforters. I’m normally not super awesome at doing “mom stuff” like this. Truthfully, I’d typically trade domestic chores for blogging any day.
But the few times that I peeked my head up in since Saturday have left me like that Groundhog who pops out and sees his shadow. He heads back into the hole, right?
(or do I have that analogy backward?)
Having popped my head out and seeing what’s happening in our world, I’d like to simply head back into my hole.
Today, I played hooky from the unpacking to catch up on a talk I’m writing for this weekend. When I surfaced and went to check on the day’s news, I looked immediately for some clarity in the aftermath of the airstrikes. I’ve read enough to know that we’re “in it for the long haul”. And I’m not typically a hysterical person when it comes to situations like this. But tonight, I have a lasting sensation of what I’d call “unsettled uncertainty”.
I want to pray for peace. But for some reason I can’t put my finger on what “peace” will look like here.
So I’ve decided that this is one of those “trust God” moments that I need to truly practice.
In that vein, I found the following Prayer for Peace penned by Saint John Paul II. It is in my heart tonight and I thought I would share it with you, in case you’re feeling the way I am.
Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, “Peace to you,” grant us peace. Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love. Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. May all peoples on the earth become as brothers and sisters. May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.
Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us!
