If you didn’t catch it live, you’ve surely heard about Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s recent appearance on The Colbert Report. While I seriously doubt that Cardinal Dolan needs the famous “Colbert bump”, he did have a great chance to share about his new e-book, Praying in Rome: Reflections on the Conclave and Electing Pope Francis. Priced at only $1.99, the book was successful before the bump but now will have the benefit of bringing Cardinal Dolan’s conclave experience to some who may not previously have been exposed to the process.

As expected, the conversation between the Cardinal and Mr. Colbert was free flowing, fun and honest. I sometimes have a hard time telling when Colbert is in character or being himself (the real self…), but either way Cardinal Dolan seemed to really have a blast with the questions, some of which were a bit challenging. As a big fan of both Stephen Colbert and the Cardinal, I’m routing for a regular segment between these two!

And just in case he’s googling himself and feeling generous, Mr. Colbert, I’ll happily come on your show any time and let you make fun of me. I’m not above begging for “the bump”. For the record, I think this is New Evangelization at its most original form.

Here, in case you missed them, are the clips of the two segments. Enjoy!
