Because I have so many Filipino Catholic friends, I was thrilled to receive an email today from the Catholic Marketing Network notifying me of a brand new Tagalog Catholic Bible – this will likely be a gift to many! I hope to get a look at it later this week when I attend the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Religious Education Congress.

American Bible Society is happy to introduce this Tagalog Catholic Bible to meet the growing needs for a low-cost mission edition for Filipino-Americans, the second largest Asian group in the U.S. and a vast majority of whom are Roman Catholics.

“Magandang Balita” meaning “Good News”, is equivalent to the English translation known as the Good News Translation (GNT) of the Bible. It has the Imprimatur from the bishop of Sorsogon, the Most Reverend Arturo Bastes, and is proven to be very popular among Filipinos who love this easy-to-read and -understand translation. It has a number of reader’s helps which include Word List, Chronology of the Bible, Jewish Holidays, maps, among others.

This Bible will be made available by the American Bible Society (booth # 423) at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress that will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center from February 22 -24, 2013. This event issponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Office of Religious Education, and is the nation’s largest annual gathering of Roman Catholics.

American Bible Society is a member of the worldwide Fellowship of the United Bible Societies. This Tagalog Catholic Bible is published by American Bible Society under license by the Philippine Bible Society.
