ND’s Bishop Kagan on Voting with a Catholic Conscience 2015-03-12T16:52:56-07:00 Lisa M. Hendey

Most Reverend David D. Kagan, Bishop of Bismarck & Apostolic Administrator of Fargo

Late last week, I shared the news of Diocese of Bismarck Bishop David Kagan’s planned weekend communication to the faithful of the Dioceses of Bismarck and Fargo, as well as the fact that his planned letter had been leaked to and reported by the Huffington Post.

You’ll now find Bishop Kagan’s Letter on “Catholic Citizenship” online at the diocesan website and you’ll want to read it for yourself.  But I also think it’s important that you take four minutes and watch this video so that you can hear from Bishop Kagan in his own words on this topic. In the letter, I particularly appreciated these words from Bishop Kagan:

In this election year, the positions of the two political parties and the positions of their candidates are well known.  What I ask each of you to do before you vote is to consider carefully what our Catholic Church teaches about these issues, then consider how your vote for a particular candidate will contribute to the common good of us all as persons with that human dignity which must be respected and protected always.

The Dash Report: Bishop Kagan shares message of voting with a Catholic conscience – 10.31.12 from Bismarck Diocese on Vimeo.

From the perspective on one working in Catholic New Media, I congratulate the Diocese for making this “firsthand” discussion available to all of us. The ability to not only read Bishop Kagan’s words, but to hear him explain his teaching firsthand, is quite helpful. I’d love to see more dioceses using the latest tools of technology to guide and instruct the faithful.

A question for you: how do you most frequently receive communications from your Bishop?
