Are you ready for a change?
People say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to change. Does that describe some aspect of your life at the moment?
If you’ve been through a divorce, it’s easy to feel stuck, especially at this time of the year. All the parties and celebrations are over. The days are shorter, people aren’t outside much. If you’re coming home to a cold, empty house, you may be susceptible to feeling discouraged about your situation.
If this describes you, just know that you don’t have to put up with that. There are things you can do to get yourself unstuck and moving forward in a productive manner. Things as simple as rearranging your furniture for a new look, taking up a new hobby – which would get you out of the house, meeting new people, and refocusing yourself on something you enjoy – or something with more impact like creating a goal sheet for the year and working on making progress toward those goals.
New Year, New Life
One sure-fire way to make a change after divorce is to go through the annulment process. Pope Francis has made administrative changes that can help you do this. For example, a great number of dioceses in the US have eliminated the fees for the annulment process altogether. That means if you thought you couldn’t afford it, now you can. The process is less time-consuming now, since the second court of appeals is not required for regular cases anymore.
But a great reason to start the annulment process is so you can find the healing you need. It’s an opportunity to eliminate the toxic, painful memories and hurt that are keeping your heart from healing. It allows you to lay the past to rest and to know without a doubt where you stand with the Church. In my experience, it helped me move forward without dragging all that baggage with me.
If you’ve been on the fence about this, I invite you to listen to my new podcast with canon lawyer, Jacqui Rapp, from the Diocese of Louisville, KY.
Jacqui will be one of the powerful speakers at the Journey of Hope Conference for Divorce Recovery, this summer. Jacqui brings great compassion and years of experience to the table in this discussion about annulments. With all the recent changes to the annulment process, it can be fairly confusing. But Jacqui offers some clear insights that can help.
A Transformational Experience
And if you’d like to have a truly transformational experience in 2017, make plans to attend the Journey of Hope Conference for Divorce Recovery. You won’t be disappointed!
The new year is a great time to make improvements, map out a new plan, or change strategies. I invite you to listen to this new podcast and see if the annulment process is the right vehicle for change for you this year.
