3.   Honor It

Kids (and Grandkids) Have Feelings, Too – You may find that your children have feelings about the rings. Although I stopped wearing my wedding ring long ago, my teenage daughter reacted strongly when I mentioned selling it, exclaiming that she would want it one day.

His Grandmother’s Ring – Returning a family heirloom to your ex-husband is an act of Christian kindness, the right thing to do morally, and legally required in some states.

A Sacramental Sign – It’s okay to keep wearing your wedding ring as your personal acknowledgement that you are still sacramentally married in the eyes of the Church. For some it becomes a symbol and reminder of their loving submission to the truth as they wait for a decision from he Marriage Tribunal, possibly a Declaration of Nullity (an annulment).

Passing it On – Is it an heirloom from your side of the family? Save it for your children or future children, or offer it to another relative if you can’t bear seeing it anymore.

Honoring Yourself – Leaving the ring on may be a protective signal that you’re not ready to date.
