Practice: Starting Out

Last updated on: February 8, 2013 at 9:47 am   By Sarah Twichell

Stepping deliberately into our practice is a helpful way to cue ourselves that something special is going on. Over time, when we do this the same way each day, this will make the practice more effective by helping our conscious and unconscious minds know what’s about to happen. Read more

Finding time

Last updated on: February 7, 2013 at 9:43 am   By Sarah Twichell

But a few minutes is always better than no minutes, and there is nothing wrong with starting with the low-hanging fruit. If you can’t find fifteen minutes at once, look for stretches of five minutes, or two minutes. If you end up hungry enough for more, you’ll find a way to make further shifts. Read more

Architecture of a Practice

Last updated on: February 1, 2013 at 10:26 am   By Sarah Twichell

Today, I’m going to share the most general outline of how a practice works, and then in the weeks to come, we'll talk about about specific ways that each of these functions can be fulfilled. Most practices involve defining space, honoring connections, magical work, and closing. Read more

One practice or many?

Last updated on: January 28, 2013 at 6:32 pm   By Sarah Twichell

One of my traditions is in my blood, and the other is in my bones. This makes theological sense to me in ways that are specific to those two practices, but it’s also a deeply resonant image. And the more I dive into it, the more ways I find it both beautiful and useful. Read more

Introducing myself

Last updated on: January 23, 2013 at 9:54 am   By Sarah Twichell

I had been a Pagan actively practicing in a community for well over a year before anyone even suggested to me “hey, this would make a good daily practice.”  My passion for daily practice started before then, but as a new Pagan who wasn’t engaged in a formal training program, I didn’t have a teacher or tradition to give me a daily practice or the tools to make my own. Read more
