Last updated on: March 13, 2020 at 2:28 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Read more

Catholic Priest first COVID-19 case in Peru

Last updated on: March 13, 2020 at 2:11 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Father Luis Núñez del Prado, a priest of the Diocese of Lurin in Peru, is the first person diagnosed with coronavirus in Peru.  He worked very closely with my mother over several years when she was in the finance council of her parish in Lurin.  I had the opportunity to meet the forty-seven year old priest many times, and in 2012, the Knights of Columbus Council #677 from Augusta, Georgia, gifted him a chalice. Father Núñez del Prado is currently hospitalized in... Read more

Cuando conocí al Papa

Last updated on: March 10, 2020 at 9:58 am   By Father Pablo Migone

Read more

Public Masses Cancelled in Rome until April

Last updated on: March 8, 2020 at 4:19 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, Vicar General of Rome, announced today that Masses with the faithful will be suspended in the Diocese of Rome until April 3rd.  This follows a decree from the Italian government suspending all public civil and religious ceremonies. At the same time, the Diocese of Rome has called for a day of fasting and prayer on March 11th for the victims of the coronavirus. To be in Rome, and not find a public Mass… that is hard... Read more

The time I met the Pope

Last updated on: March 6, 2020 at 1:55 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

After greeting us one by one, Pope Francis addressed the whole group of pilgrims with these words, “I wish I could give you something, maybe a cup of coffee?”   We laughed knowing that was not going to happen.  We had waited for over an hour to see him as he finished meeting with several Russian Orthodox bishops and dignitaries.  After asking for prayers and giving us his apostolic blessing, we were ushered out of the room of the Apostolic Palace... Read more

Last updated on: March 2, 2020 at 3:24 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

No... Read more

New addition to Saint Peter Basilica

Last updated on: February 29, 2020 at 6:33 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

I served as a tour guide of Saint Peter Basilica in Rome for one year.  Once per week, I led a group of English-speaking pilgrims through the basilica. I oftentimes pointed out how the basilica was a living place – not a museum or a historical artifact.  This is most evident in the liturgical life of the basilica, but also can be seen in the changes, additions, and modifications that are made in it.  It is not frozen it time,... Read more

El padre que me bautizó

Last updated on: February 25, 2020 at 3:38 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Read more

The priest who baptized me

Last updated on: February 21, 2020 at 11:58 am   By Father Pablo Migone

On January 31st, 2020, the priest who baptized me died. Father Juan Romero Lopez was a Spanish missionary from Granada, Spain who spent his priesthood working in the southern outskirts of Lima, Peru. On April 24th 1982 my parents, godparents, friends and family, took me to the parish church of the small country town of Lurín and Padre Juan welcomed me into God’s family. The beautiful colonial church built in 1703 had been recently refurbished, and several years later was... Read more
