Pope Paul VI and President Lyndon Johnson during the Vietnam War

Last updated on: July 8, 2010 at 5:39 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

This is a paper I wrote six years ago on the relationship between Pope Paul VI and President Lyndon Johnson that developed over issues regarding the Vietnam War. This post is long, but I hope you find it interesting. I have placed the footnotes at the end of the paper, for a full bibliography contact me. If you found the article useful, please leave me a comment telling me what you thought and what you’re working on, it’d be interesting... Read more

Silence

Last updated on: July 4, 2010 at 12:54 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

[Written for my parish bulletin] In June I took three days and spent them in silence. It was less than normal for me since in seminary we would take five days of silence at the start of each year. It can be difficult to remain silent for a long period of time, but it is certainly not impossible. With busy lives and so much running around, everyone needs some quiet time to decompress and relax. It has great psychological benefits,... Read more

No Looking Back

Last updated on: June 27, 2010 at 12:01 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Meditating on Jesus’ words “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God,” in my homily this weekend I looked at ways we often “look back” and get derailed from our journey towards God. In what ways is God calling each one of us to plow forward as we follow Him day after day in our ordinary lives? In what ways are we sometimes tempted to... Read more

Youth Challenge

Last updated on: June 26, 2010 at 12:00 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

[Written for my parish bulletin] Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel may be tough to digest, “no one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” Some may get discouraged by these words, but many, especially many young people today, see it as a challenge they are willing to accept. I believe many young people today are looking for a challenge in life. They do not want to... Read more

Christian Unity

Last updated on: June 20, 2010 at 10:03 am   By Father Pablo Migone

[Written for my parish bulletin] At the last supper Jesus fervently prayed for his apostles and all those who would come to believe in Him. He prayed that they may be one, as He and the Father are one. Living in the South, all we have to do is drive down any road for five minutes to realize that the disciples of Christ are not one. We have countless Christian Churches even though the Roman Catholic Church remains the largest... Read more

Holy Spirit

Last updated on: June 18, 2010 at 11:29 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

This is a short paraphrase of a poem written by Amado Nervo, a Mexican poet and mystic who died about 100 years ago. Alone we are only a spark, but in the Spirit, we are a fire.Alone we are only a string, but in the Spirit, we are a lyre.Alone we are only an anthill, but in the Spirit, we are a mountain.Alone we are only a drop, but in the Spirit, we are a fountain.Alone we are only a... Read more

The Sky

Last updated on: March 25, 2016 at 3:35 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

Every time I gaze up at the sky I am reminded of how little I actually am. This happens especially during stary nights. Here are two beautiful pictures of the sky I’ve taken. The first is from the ruins of the first known hospital near Pergamum, Turkey, and the second I took while laying down at the Piazza del Campo of Siena, Italy. Trinity Sunday

Last updated on: May 30, 2010 at 9:22 am   By Father Pablo Migone

Written for Sacred Heart Parish Bulletin, Warner Robins Many priests and seminarians joke that to pass an exam on the Trinity, you just need to write or say “it’s mystery” and you pass. The joke is funny but it misses the point completely of what a mystery is. A mystery, though it can never be fully understood, invites us to continuously explore it, not to dismiss it quickly as an incomprehensible thing. For example, a murder mystery invites FBI agents... Read more

Good Shepherd Sunday

Last updated on: April 27, 2010 at 5:48 pm   By Father Pablo Migone

This is an excerpt from my homily on Good Shepherd Sunday on listening to Jesus and the Gospel. Whatever we listen to is what we think about.Whoever we listen to is the person we strive to imitate. For example, if we have the TV on all day on a 24 hour news network, we will start worrying and obsessing about events happening half a world away that have nothing to do with our lives. We will feel burdened, and maybe... Read more

Divine Mercy Sunday

Last updated on: April 11, 2010 at 11:17 am   By Father Pablo Migone

On this Divine Mercy Sunday, I’d like to share what I wrote in this weekend’s bulletin at my parish: Dear brothers and sisters, The last few weeks have made us aware of the continual need for conversion and renewal in the Church as many more accusations against abusive priests have emerged. These revelations are greatly disappointing because they bring up unacceptable behavior from members of the clergy. At times like these, we must remember that as Christians we place our... Read more
