Trump Is Changing the USA from Being a Good Samaritan 2026-10-19T23:15:24-07:00 Kermit Zarley

Yesterday, in front of the White House before the media, President Donald Trump spit out another one of his constant lies by saying of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine that its President Volodymyr Zelensky “doesn’t want to end this war and probably never did.”

Donald Trump is just like I blogged back on May 20, 2016, when he was conducting his first political campaign for the U.S. presidency. I wrote, “I think Donald Trump is a big bag of hot air ready to blow up like the Hindenburg blimp if he becomes U.S. president.” And that’s about what David Letterman said to Trump when he had him on his Late Show about that time. He asked The Donald, “Aren’t you just a big bag of hot wind?”

Trump Says Poor Ukraine Has Given Wealthy USA “Nothing”

Trump also said yesterday, gathered with the media, “We’ve given a lot to Ukraine. They’ve given us nothing!” I guess Trump, who once said publicly that no one loves the Bible more than he does. About that time he also held one up in front of St. John’s Church that was much photographed. That image is on the front cover of my book Bible Predicts Trump Fall, Has Donald Trump ever read Jesus’ memorable parable about the Good Samaritan?

A Samaritan Woman Spreads the News: Jesus Is the Messiah

Samaritans were a half-breed population that lived inside the Land of Israel in Samaria. It was located between Judea and Galilee, where Jesus lived. To walk from Jerusalem to Nazareth, a village 60 miles to the north, taking a straight line required going through Samaria. That was off limits for religious Jews because they hated those half-breed, Gentile-Jewish Samaritans. Once when Jesus took that journey, he stopped at Jacob’s well to encounter a Samaritan woman, and Jesus spoke to her (John 4.1-26). Regardless of being Samaritan, Jewish men were not supposed to do that with unaccompanied, women strangers. In fact, when his disciples came, we read, “They were astonished that he was speaking with a woman” (v. 27).

The Hated Samaritans Said Jesus Is “the Savior of the World”

We all know the story of Jesus’ death, how the Jewish people condemned him and pressured Governor Pontius Pilate to crucify him. That’s what the New Testament gospels and its book of Acts say repeatedly. In contrast, and in a most interesting exchange of words between Jesus and a Samaritan woman, she believed he was Israel’s promised Messiah. So, she immediately went back home to spread the news in her hometown of Samaria. She asked, “He cannot be the Messiah, can he?” (John 4.29). We read, “Many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony” (v. 39). Yet people went out to meet Jesus and hear for themselves. Then they said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world” (v. 42). What a shame, that the Jewish people rejected Jesus and got him killed, but the hated half-breeds believed in him.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

Later on, Jesus taught a parable, recorded only in the Gospel of Luke, that came to be called “The Parable of the Good Samaritan.” It was when a “lawyer,” an expert in the Law of Moses, asked Jesus a question about the Law saying to love our neighbors as ourselves. We read, “But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?’ Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into hand of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead'” (Luke 10.29-30 NRSV).

Jesus then said a Jewish “priest” and “a Levite” saw the man half dying on the ground, but passed by. Then Jesus said, “But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?'” (Luke 10.33-36).

The lawyer replied, “‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise'” (Luke 10.37).

Trump Is Changing the U.S. from Being a Good Samaritan

Ukraine is like that Samaritan who “fell into the hands of robbers” when Russian President Vladimir Putin sent 100,000 of his troops to invade its un-provoking neighbor Ukraine, assaulting that nation and robbing it to take it over and force it to become part of Russia, just as it had done in 2014 with Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula. And the U.S., rather than continuing to help Ukraine by paying for needed armaments to ward off the thieving Russians, U.S. President Donald Trump says about the matter, “We’ve given a lot to Ukraine. They’ve given us nothing!” Likewise, the assaulted man laying helpless in the road couldn’t pay anything to the Good Samaritan who cared for him.

This is a major reason why the United States of American has been such a great nation for a long time now. It has been a Good Samaritan in helping nations that were down and out. President Donald Trump needs to read that Bible he held up one day, read about the Good Samaritan, and let it sink into his heart to make him a better man. Will it ever happen? Or will The Donald go from bad to worse as he has been doing when comparing his first presidency with this his second presidency?
