Wyndam Clark, PGA Tour pro golfer

Wyndam Clarke, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, is running away from the pack at this year’s 126th U.S. Open being held at famed Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, New York. With eight under par 202 after with one round remaining, he has a seven-stroke lead on four players who are tied for second place at one under par: Scottie Scheffler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim, and Sam Stevens. Sam Burns, Scheffler’s best friend on Tour and who lead the U.S. Open last year after two and three rounds, is one more stroke back, tied for 6th place at even par 210.

Clark Appears to Be Hard to Beat this Week

Scottie Scheffler, the #1 pro golfer in the world the past three years, is going for what is called a career grand slam this week. That means being the winner of the four major championships in golf. But it looks like he will have to shoot lights out tomorrow to catch Clark, who shows no evidence of falling back with the pack chasing after him. Clark has what I would call “a major championship golf swing,” and his putter has been hot to boot. That kind of combination is hard to beat.

Leaders Clark, Scheffler, & Burns Are Christians

Clark, Scheffler, and Burns are perhaps the most prominent members of the PGA Tour Bible Study which yours truly founded many moons ago and is thriving as never before. I’ve blogged multiple times about Scheffler’s Christian commitment, and Burns too. Clark, who hails from Denver, Colorado, grew up in a Christian home and attended Valor Christian High School. He once told the media, “God has a plan for me, and it’s obviously far greater than I ever could have imagined.”

This is the first book ever published about the flourishing Christian movement on the PGA Tour, now in its 60th anniversary. It centers on the early history of the PGA Tour Bible Study that now retired Tour player Kermit Zarley and others founded in 1965. He tells many interesting, and often humorous, stories about his fellow PGA Tour pros. But the main thrust of the book is about how this fellowship has impacted the lives of its members and had a positive influence on golf in general. My New Book About Christians on the PGA Tour

They say about one third of all the players on the PGA Tour are professing Christians, and many of them attend the Tour Bible Study’s weekly meetings. If you’re interested in reading about this Christian movement in pro golf, get my new book about it entitled Christ on the PGA Tour (1965-1982), available at amazon.com.
