Over two weeks ago, on June 25th, the Pentagon released its long-awaited report about UFOs, that is, “unidentified flying objects.” The U.S. intelligence community now prefers to call them UAPs, which is short for “unidentified aerial phenomena.”
The report states, “Some UAP appeared to remain stationary in winds aloft, move against the wind, maneuver abruptly, or move at considerable speed, without discernible means of propulsion. In a small number of cases, military aircraft systems processed radio frequency (RF) energy associated with UAP sightings.” But the report does not explain some many of the sightings in investigated which clearly have no natural explanation, moreover, defy our natural world.
The report was unsatisfying to most people. Some rather ill-informed people expected the U.S. government to admit that UFOs have been advanced U.S. military aircraft. Even worse were people who expected the Pentagon to admit that all UFOs have some natural explanation that pertains only to Earth, even though they may not be able to explain it. Others were hoping the government finally would admit that UFOs are extraterrestrial aliens from other planets. But it did none of these things. In fact, the Pentagon report provided nothing new compared to our government’s final explanation about UFOs over fifty years.
Since 1969 until now, the U.S. government has regarded UFOs as a closed book, that is when the U.S. Air Force ended its 17-year investigation of UFOs, called Project Blue Book (1952-1969). Military leaders generally adopted an extremely skeptical and cynical attitude about UFOs. In both the U.S. military and commercial aviation in general, it was job-threatening to even talk about UFOs or to do so with seriousness. That is about the only thing that has now changed with this Pentagon report, that talk about UFOs ought no longer be regarded with disdain.
I believe in UFOs. I believe many UFOs have been the work of angles visiting our planet. That is, UFO sightings which cannot possibly have a natural explanation, as we understand physical Earth and our atmosphere, are the result of angels. See my ten-part blog series on UFOs, posted April 3-12, 2018, starting here. Read my lengthy and private conversation with Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, about UFOs being angels.
I am amazed that angels are not considered in all this talk about UFOs, or UAPs if you prefer. Although U.S. church attendance has declined somewhat in this century, over half of all Americans still attend church and say they believe in the existence of God and angels. They believe in angels mostly because the Bible has much information about them.
According to the Bible, God dwells in heaven, which seems to be far away from Earth, and his angels dwell with him there. Furthermore, the Bible teaches that there is a personage who opposes God–called Satan or the devil–who has his own angels. The most apocalyptic book in the Bible’s Old Testament, the book of Daniel, tells about one of God’s angels, “a holy watcher, coming down from heaven” to Earth to observe what human beings are doing and perhaps to influence them (Daniel 4.13). But there were other angels who accompanied this angle since the text further informs, The sentence is rendered by decree of the watchers” (v. 17). This angelic decree was pronounced against the great Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar in the sixth century BCE. He even had a dream about this, in which “the king saw a holy watcher coming down from heaven” to deliver a frightening prophesy about the king (v. 23).
The book of Hebrews in the Bible’s New Testament asks a question about God’s angels, “Are not all angels spirits in the divine service, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1.14). Notice that it says angels are spirits. That is very significant in this discussion about UFOs. Our government, and most of its citizens, only think one way about UFOs, and that is physical. It’s because we can examine observe with our eyes the physical and investigate it. But the spiritual is very different, which most people don’t believe. Yes, there are spiritual phenomena, and angels are a prime example of it. Angels are spirit beings.
I don’t think human beings will ever understand much more than they do now about UFOs until they realize that there is more in this universe than mere physical, and that is the existence of spirit apart from physical. It is that way with God. Jesus informed the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4.24). Just as God is spirit and not physical, so are the angels.
But just because God is spirit, that does not necessarily mean that God does not have form. Jesus said to his interlocutors concerning God, “You have never heard his voice or seen his form” (John 5.37). This indicates that Jesus believed that God, as a spirit being, has form. The Bible has some very interesting narratives which convey this.
For example, the prophet Isaiah relates about a vision he had, saying, “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs [a type of angel perhaps] were in attendance above him” (Isaiah 6.1-2).
The prophet Ezekiel likewise conveys that “the heavens were opened” to him as he sat by the river Chebar, “and I saw visions of God” (Ezekiel 1.1). Jewish kabalists cite the main text for their mystical beliefs. It was so difficult for Ezekiel to describe what he saw that he constantly does so with qualifying words in order to explain what was spirit and thus not physical, saying “(something) like” and “looked like.” He relates about “something like four living creatures” (v. 5) that had human faces and animal-looking bodies that moved on wheels amidst lightning. When they stopped moving there was a “dome over their heads” (v. 25). Ezekiel continues, “And above the dome over their heads there was something like a throne, in appearance like sapphire, and seated above the likeness of a throne was something that seemed like a human form. . . . This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD,” referring to God (vv. 26, 28).
The prophet Daniel relates a similar vision he had in which he says, “As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him,” surely referring to angels (Daniel 7.9-10).
These accounts by God’s holy prophets should not be dismissed as imagination; rather, they were visions of what actually appeared in heaven, which itself (I believe) is spirit. Spirit is just as real as our physical world is real. The two are just different.
So, spirit beings can have form. The Bible relates several incidents in which human beings encountered an angel or angels in which they appeared instantly, spoke with those human beings, and disappeared instantly. Many UFOs sighted in past decades just in the U.S. appeared instantly and disappeared instantly to those who saw them. And UFOs are not just an American phenomenon; UFOs for decades, even centuries, have been witnessed by human beings all over the world and recorded as such.
I furthermore believe that human beings during this age will eventually discover that angels are real and that they are spirit beings. How so? Daniel relates concerning the final Antichrist, whom he characterizes symbolically as a “horn, a little one, . . . grew as high as the host of heaven. It threw down to the earth some of the host and some of the stars and trampled on them” (Daniel 8.10). Many people during antiquity believed in the existence of angels, and they sometimes characterized them as, or associated them with, stars. Although this is a difficult text to interpret, I believe it means the Antichrist will rise up, perhaps in manned spacecraft, and enter into combat with some angels, defeat them, throw down to Earth and literally trample upon them. But I’m not going to divulge here at this time how I think he will accomplish this. I will tell about that in a future volume of my Still Here book series on Bible prophecy.
The book of Revelation relates that the final Antichrist, called “the beast,” “opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is those who dwell in heaven” with him, who are his holy angels (Revelation 13.6). He surely will not do this unless he knows with certainly that there is a heaven, that there is a God, that this God dwells there, and this God has others there dwelling with him. Those others are the many, many angels of God who are not physical, but spirit beings like God himself. They can manifest themselves to humans instantly with their spirit form, and they can likewise instantly disappear.
In conclusion, I believe that all of this suggests that many unexplained UFOs are no more than angels come down here from heaven.
