Christian Anti-Vaxxers–Do You Know Jesus Will Rule with a Rod of Iron? 2021-07-29T23:41:38-07:00 Kermit Zarley
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
I can’t shut up about calling out these STUPID and ARROGANT Christian anti-vaxxer preachers who endanger peoples’ lives. I’ve quoted Jesus about it in a previous post, especially his teaching about self-denial. Most anti-and non-vaxxers claim to have “human rights,” but as Christians they are wrong. Not only that, just as any human being, we have a moral duty to do right to our fellow man.
Anti-vaxxers don’t have a right to endanger other peoples’ lives, which is what they are doing. It is especially so about those who call themselves “Christian.” Jesus said, “love your neighbor as yourself.” That means don’t be a possible conduit of sickness or death to your neighbors, meaning anyone, by getting COVID-19 and transmitting to them.
I wrote a book about this pandemic entitled Moses Predicted COVID-19. In it, I compare this pandemic, and others caused by zoonosis (transmission of coronavirus from animal to human), to Moses’ food laws from which Jews get the idea of eating kosher (Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14). At Mt. Sinai, when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, he also told Moses that animals are to be categorized into two groups: clean animals and unclean animals. And when anyone in the camp of Israel violated the further instructions God gave about the unclean animals, that person usually was commanded to leave the camp and isolate outdoors for the remainder of the day. What if a person refused to do that, like these anti-vaxxers regarding getting a vaccine to keep from contracting and transmitting COVID-19? They were to be put to death, similar to the scripture I cited in my last post about this.
According to the Bible, in the world-to-come, Jesus will see to it that people adhere to God’s commandments. That’s because he will be “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19.16) in a universal kingdom of peace and righteousness. Some folks think Jesus was all love and acceptance, not requiring keeping of commandments. Not so. He said quite clearly to his disciples at the Last Supper, only hours before his crucifixion, thus saying something very important to them–“They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them. . . . we will come to them and make our home with them. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me” (John 14.21, 23 NRSV).
How will Jesus rule as King of kings and Lord of lords” in the world-to-come? The scriptures are quite clear; he will rule like a shepherd using a rod of iron. For instance, both Jews and Christians believe Psalm 2 is messianic. The Hebrew text of it relates that Yahweh, who is God, will say to mashiach, meaning “anointed one” and thus Messiah, “You are my son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel” (Psalm 2.7-9). This seems a bit harsh until you understand the context. At the end of the age, the Antichrist has just killed off probably billions of the Christians in the past 3.5 years. Now, he is leading the nations’ armies to totally annihilate the nation of Israel. (See my book Warrior from Heaven.)
Furthermore, three times in the Bible’s final book, it says Jesus will rule with a rod of iron. First, the risen, heavenly Jesus says of himself, “I will give authority over the nations; to rule them with an iron rod as when clay pots are shattered” (Revelation 2.27). So, here, Jesus says he will give certain ones among his people the authority to rule firmly, as if shattering pottery; and if he will have his people do that, surely he himself will do the same. Second, John’s vision is about “the male child,” which refers to Jesus’ birth, “who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron” (Revelation 12.5). Third, at Jesus’ second coming, “From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron” (Revelation 19.15).
So, if any people in the world-to-come intend to violate God’s commandments such as refusing to isolate from the community according to Moses food laws, due to exposure to the carcass of an unclean animal, Jesus would see to it that they did what they were supposed to do or else! I think this realization of Jesus’ stern rule in such cases should cause these Christian anti-vaxxers to reform their thinking and no longer be a possible conduit to making other people gravely ill and perhaps killing them with COVID-19.
