It’s old news now. NFL football player Colin Kaepernickhad kneeled at a game last year, when the national anthem was played, as a protest to police brutality against blacks and maybe other minorities in the USA. There had been some recent police incidents that caused him to do so. Also, NBA superstar Stephen Curry announced recently that he didn’t want to attend with his Golden State Warriors the invitation to the White House because he doesn’t like President Donald Trump. Afterwards, fellow teammate MVP last season, Kevin Durant, said the same. Both players are black and Christian.

Friday night, President Trump spoke in Huntsville, Alabama, at a political rally to elect Republican Senator Luther Strange. He had filled the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump then used his bully pulpit, as he often does, to speak out against such professional athletes. He said, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these N.F.L. owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired.” Trump also criticized NFL, claiming it is getting players not to hit as hard. The NFL is in the midst of a series of lawsuits about its past handling of especially players getting concussions, some of which have resulted in brain injuries.

Trump’s criticisms were so insensitive and unpresidential. It’s characteristic of him when he’s not being controlled by his White House staffers, which is most of the time. Trump also sent some tweets about this yesterday. He criticized Stephen Curry and made it sound like he, the president, had withdrawn the invitation to this year’s champion Golden State Warriors to visit the White House.

Number 1 NBA player on the planet LeBron James campaigned some for Hilary Clinton last year and voiced his disapproval of Trump seeking the presidency. Yesterday, LeBron sent this tweet about President Trump, “U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!” Well said LeBron James.

Yesterday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell strongly rebuked President Trump for these critical remarks against the NFL. Furthermore, Trump’s criticism of pro athletes not saluting the flag or standing while the national anthem is played at games as a protest of police brutality revealed an ignorance of human rights protected by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights which have a history in court. But it may not be an ignorance. As I’ve posted before, many months ago, I don’t think Donald Trump really believes in our democratic system.

In my opinion, President Donald Trump is a JERK and an embarrassment to the USA. He said in a speech to the UN last week, “I will always put America first.” Yeah, sure. Then why didn’t he reveal his income tax returns during the campaign to become president, as all past presidents had done for about fifty years or more? Why does he constantly berate the U.S. press and even our national government intelligence community, starting with the CIA and FBI. These are precious U. S. institutions that safeguard our democracy? Why does he call the Department of Justice’s the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller “a hoax.” He served as FBI director for eleven years with distinction and has a stellar reputation on the Hill. Our entire intelligence community has said the evidence definitely shows that the Russian government tried to influence the election last year to get Trump elected. Why does President Trump constantly criticize so many people and never Russian President Vladimir Putin? It’s because it looks like Mr. Trump is hiding something that is very important for the American people to know and maybe to protect our democracy. That’s why it looks like he is purposely trying to divide the country, trying to get enough people on his side when Mr. Mueller comes out with damaging information against Mr. Trump. But Trump may try to stop that by getting Mueller fired.

And all of this is happening when President Trump and North Korean President Kim John-un are ramping up their rhetoric. Trump is now leading in it. At the UN speech, he called Kim “Rocketman” headed for “suicide.” He said if North Korea in any way attacks the U.S. or our allies, South Korea and Japan, the U.S. will completely “destroy North Korea.” I think such talk is unnecessary and a detriment to peace. It is the talk of warmongers. It fits bully Trump. As his wife Melania said proudly, if someone hits her husband, “he hits back ten times harder.” That talk and her husband’s behavior doesn’t square with her constant words against bullying.

Kim isn’t backing down. Rather, Trump’s threats just seem to spur Kim and his militaristic regime forward. Vladimir Putin says it is folly to think of negotiating with North Korea to get them to give up nuclear weapons. He says they “would rather eat grass,” referring to sanctions imposed now upon them that were approved by the UN Security Council recently. North Korea now has a hydrogen bomb and can deliver ICBMs to land on the U.S. mainland. It looks like the U. S. is headed for a war, perhaps a nuclear war, with North Korea. Oh God, save American. Oh God, save the world.
