International Women’s Day: Recommended Reading 2018-03-10T19:19:26-06:00 Kelley Mathews

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

March 8 has become known as International Women’s Day, a focal point within Women’s History Month (March). The movement to acknowledge women’s contributions to American history gained momentum in the 1970s, when President Jimmy Carter instituted these commemorative days. They are not willing to be ignored or sidelined by historically male powerbrokers of our society.

In honor of our society’s special focus on women today, I want to highlight a few women of the Bible and of history whom, I believe, everyone should know, read, and/or emulate. (Note: See my word, few. This cannot possibly be an exhaustive list. Just whetting your appetite and giving you a few ideas for your next library search.)
