Mainstream media is covering the event, with some anchors giving extended time to it, especially on morning television. Kathie Lee Gifford, one of the TODAY hosts, appeared on another NBC morning show to share her personal experience with Dr. Graham. She and her late husband had met him on several occasions. But she goes a little further than just sharing memories. One wonders if she’s ready to step into his shoes. Watch this clip.

RNS correspondent Jonathan Merritt writes for the NY Times: **“**As a student of American Christianity, I’ve always been fascinated by Mr. Graham’s ability to engage the public square without losing sight of himself or his calling.”

For CNN, Ed Stetzer writes: “Graham’s true legacy—why so many people are celebrating him—is not that he was famous. Graham’s place in American history is due to his singular devotion to making someone else famous.”

J.D. Greear sums up the Graham ministry in four words.

Dr. Jim Denison tells the story of the night he met Graham: “I am convinced that the secret to his success is the fact that he has never focused on success.”

Christianity Today, the magazine founded by Graham’s ministry, published this memorial issue filled with articles and photos covering his ministry, family, publications, and more.
