Ephesians 2:4-7

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”

A God who is love cannot help but draw us nearer, restore us, honor us, and shower us with grace and kindness. We are the focus of God’s love, made in God’s image (which is love), and forever entangled with Christ, so that, in every way, we are identical with the Divine.

Christ is made alive, and we are made alive. Christ is raised and seated in the heavenly places, and we are seated as well. Christ is forever exalted in the age to come, and all of us in Christ (which is all of us), are forever lifted up and showered with God’s endless grace and kindness.

Almost nothing could be more evident in the writings of the Apostle Paul than this idea that Christ and Humanity are forever intertwined in an eternal dance of love empowered by a spiritual entanglement on the quantum level.

All of this is beyond our control. We do not deserve this miraculous connection with God, but we do not have to deserve it. In the same way that the sky does not have to deserve to be blue, it is blue simply because it is the sky, and we are loved and made one with Christ simply because this is who we are, and this is who God is.

As Paul says in verse 10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

In other words, this is who God has created us to be: In Christ.

God’s purpose, as Paul says in verse 15, “…was to create one new humanity,” that fully reflects the Divine image in the flesh, with an unbreakable connection to God, through the eternal power of God’s love.

This is who we are: One new humanity. Alive with Christ. Filled with the resurrection power of God’s love. Eternally seated with God in Christ. Forever surrounded by God’s presence.

There can be no separation between us and God. God’s image remains forever on display within us. The One in whom we all live, and move, and have our being, has made us One.
