Saying 48: Jesus said, “If two make peace with one another within a single house they will say to a mountain ‘go elsewhere’ and it will go elsewhere.”

By now I hope you are beginning to notice certain patterns in these sayings of Jesus found in Thomas’s Gospel. References to two or one are clues for us that the saying is about erasing the imaginary lines between seemingly separate things so we can begin to see them united as one.

Simply put, time and time again, Jesus comes to us in this collection of secret sayings and asks us to reimagine the universe and the world around us as one single, unified, interconnected reality where all things are made one in and through Christ.

Here, Jesus says that whenever two people make peace with one another, they become one and the same. Their house become a single house, their hearts begin to beat in perfect time together, and they begin to breathe in unison, simply because they have come to the realization that they are not two separate people; they are merely different expressions of the One who fills everything in every way.

Once we come to this “peace” and recognize that no one is our enemy, and no one is “other” to us, then we find the tranquility of the transcending reality of Oneness that permeates all living things in our Universe. There is no separation between us. We are all One in Christ Jesus. Christ is all, and is in all.

When that day comes, Jesus says, all will be in alignment and our awareness of this cosmic and eternal truth will tune our hearts as one so that we might agree together on anything and see it come to fruition. Nothing will be impossible for us in that day, because nothing is impossible for God, and we are in God and God is in all of us. Our resonating frequencies with the wavelength of Christ will become an irresistible and unstoppable force that even the laws of physics and the natural world must bend to.

Certainly, on some level, this assertion that mountains could be moved around like a child’s toy is hyperbolic. But it’s an hyperbole that serves to awaken our imaginations to the exquisite beauty of being One with Christ, and intertwined with one another, and with every single atom in the universe. When that happens, moving a mountain will be as effortless as moving our arm or blinking our eyes.

Our goal, then, is to open our eyes to this reality; to stay awake and not become lulled back into the sleepy dreamworld ruled by the dualistic illusion of us and them, right and wrong, black and white, good and evil, or male and female.

Blessed are those peacemakers whose eyes are opened to this transcendent reality of our Oneness with Christ who makes us One with everyone, everywhere, at all times.

Because our world will not change, until we change. Peace will not come until we achieve the peace of that essential Oneness we all have in Christ.
