Stop Surpassing God’s Infinity

There you go again, loving sinners more than God does.

It’s getting kinda annoying, to be honest.

I know God is awesome, but come on. God is not THAT awesome.

Sure, God is love, blah, blah, blah. I get that. We all get that.

But, you forget that God is also a God of wrath and justice. There’s plenty of wrath and justice just oozing out of God right now. Lots of it. In fact, you should probably just meditate on that a bit more. That will help you forget about all that love and mercy stuff.

I mean, yes, God is sometimes loving and merciful, but really, it’s mostly just for people like me. You know, the “true believers” who make sure to point out the sinfulness of everyone else. That’s who God REALLY loves most.

I mean, no one can expect God to really love those sinners who aren’t as faithful as you and me. Have you ever tried to hang out with those people? Well, I haven’t. To be honest, I do my best to avoid them as much as possible. You should too. That will make it so much easier to lump them all into one big anonymous blob; think of them as being homogeneous in their motives and paint them all with the same fat brush.

Once you’ve done that it is SO much easier to say things like, “All Muslims hate our freedoms and secretly want to kill Christians”, or “All gay people want to destroy the sanctity of marriage and destroy the American family”, or “All homeless people are lazy and just want a hand-out.”

Just try it and you’ll see what I mean.

Once you actually meet someone who is a Muslim, or gay, or homeless, etc., then it’s really hard to lump them into that larger group of “others.” Trust me. I once met a lovely person at a party, laughed all night, shared personal stories, found so much in common with them that I nearly felt like I might even want to get to know them better. But then, to my horror, I discovered they weren’t even Christian. In fact, I’m pretty sure they might even be gay. Can you believe that? I nearly started to think of them as “human” like the rest of us. That was a close one.

Just remember: God’s love is amazing, and beautiful, but it’s not THAT amazing. And even if it is THAT amazing, it’s really only for “real” Christians like us.

So, the next time you get one of those crazy ideas to love one of those other people outside the circle, just try to control yourself.

I mean, it’s kind of embarrassing to have to explain why you can love “those people” if God can’t. Just imagine how it must make God feel to see you loving all those sinners that don’t deserve it? Have you thought of that? What sort of message are you sending if you just love everyone around you? Please try to be more selective. You’re making God look bad when you run around loving the wrong sorts of people.

Plus, those sinners might start to think that God loves them as much as you do. Can you imagine that? What a tragedy!

Love is dangerous. You just can’t go around showing it to everyone you meet. Hold it close. Be careful with it. Just try loving those who love you in return. Keep the rest to yourself.

I mean, if you start loving those who hate you, what credit is that to you? Isn’t it better – and safer – to love those who love you in return?

And please don’t forget that one day Jesus is going to come back and slaughter everyone who doesn’t love him in return. There’s your example. Not that “Sermon on the Mount” stuff you keep going on about.

Just back off on this “God is Love” nonsense. Mix in a little more Wrath and Justice. Wait for Jesus to return and blast those sinners into hell.

I mean, can you imagine what our world would be like if every Christian just loved people the way you do? If we ran around telling people that God was their Father [even if they weren’t going to our Church], they might start to believe it, and then they wouldn’t feel the need to come to our Church.

Do you see what I’m talking about? We’ve got to be strategic about this.

If Christians start loving EVERYONE this whole religion just might dry up and blow away. We’ve got to think of the children. I mean, “our” Children, of course. Those other people have to take care of their own problems. Am I right?

So, hopefully you can see my point. We can’t allow ourselves to become ambassadors of love who just embrace everyone without being a bit more selective. God is love. Yeah, yeah. We get that. But don’t forget the Wrath. There’s plenty of that to go around. Believe me. Plenty of that.

Oh, and Merry Christmas. Peace on Earth and all that.
