Last updated on: September 30, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Kathy Schiffer

A decision yesterday in the European Parliament gives hope to pro-lifers, after MEPs voted to send a pro-abortion report back to committee. The report, drafted by Portuguese MEP Edite Estrela, called for making abortion a basic human right and demanded that it be made “legal, safe, and accessible to all.”  The report, drafted with assistance from the International Planned Parenthood Federation, stated that “it is essential for individual, social and economic development that women have the right to decide freely... Read more

Athletes Hit the Streets in Rome for the “Race of Faith”

Last updated on: September 30, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Kathy Schiffer

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” –Timothy 4:7 As the sun rose over the Eternal City last Sunday, the cobblestone streets of Rome were transformed into a racetrack for a unique event:  the Race of Faith. A temporary three-lane track was laid along the Villa della Conciliazione, carving out a 100-metre track on which a few hundred people raced toward St. Peter’s Square.  Among the racers were seminarians and sisters,... Read more

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops today announced the list of ten candidates for their next president and vice president. The highest vote-getters in the election will replace outgoing president and vice president Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York and Archbishop Joseph E. How Sorry Is Sorry Enough? In Some Hearts, the Church Will Never Find Forgiveness (UPDATED)

Last updated on: September 30, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Kathy Schiffer

On October 18, the Archbishop of Manila made a public apology for the sins of the Church. And once again, the perennial non-forgivers used the occasion of his apology as an opportunity to spew hatred against the Catholic Church. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, speaking to about 5,000 attendees of the Philippine Conference on the New Evangelization, expressed contrition for the sins, the hurts that the Church has inflicted on non-Catholics and non-Christians.  According to a report in the Catholic Herald,... Read more

Hate to Wait? A Humorous Look at Why Your Computer Gets Hung Up

Last updated on: September 30, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Kathy Schiffer

It’s amazing to remember that only a few years ago, you were typing on an IBM Selectric, making four carbon copies, and using a lead pencil with an eraser. Times have changed, though; and in today’s impatient, “instant access” culture, it’s s-o-o-o frustrating to have to wait for a video to download. From Vince Broquaire, French artist whose wry illustrations and vimeos capture the essence of the Internet era, an illustrated explanation of what happens when your status bar gets... Read more

Saints, Sung and Unsung: Unique Exhibit Opens in Windsor

Last updated on: September 30, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Kathy Schiffer

What does a saint look like? We have our preconceptions:  Saints are serene, eyes cast downward, hands folded in prayer. Saints flash joyful smiles while reaching out to help the poor and needy. Saints stand bravely against the enemies of the Gospel, praying as the bullets or the machete or the poison claims their bodies, releasing their spirits to enter into perfect union with God. But a new exhibit by Canadian artist Owen Swain tells a different story. Swain’s Saints,... Read more

Pope Francis has sent a gift of 200 Euros to an elderly Venetian woman who wrote him, upset because she had been mugged.  The woman, in her late 80s, told the Holy Father that her purse, which contained 54 Euros, had been stolen while she was on her way to visit her ailing husband in the hospital. The Catholic Herald reports that last week, an envelope was delivered to a local priest, Father  Gianni Antoniazzi, sealed by the Vatican Secretary... Read more
