Bio
Kathy Schiffer is Director of Publicity and Special Events for Ave Maria Radio.
Previously, she worked for Guest House, the treatment center for Catholic clergy and religious, where she was Communications/Media Relations Coordinator. During her tenure at Guest House, Kathy edited a 50th anniversary commemorative book, None Too Early, None Too Late: 50 Years of Recovery and Renewal at Guest House. She has organized major fundraising events including the annual Detroit Bishop’s Dinner, Portland (ME) Bishop’s Reception, Chicago Cardinal’s Dinner, Guest House Golf Classic, and the “Giving In Style” Celebrity Fashion Show. She also planned and implemented a 50th Anniversary Reception at the Vatican Embassy in Washington D.C. which was hosted by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Through her efforts, Guest House was entered in the newly revised New Catholic Encyclopedia, available in print or by on-line subscription.
Prior to joining the staff at Guest House, Kathy was Conference Director for Legatus, an international organization for Catholic business leaders. She organized an international pilgrimage to Rome and other locations each September, as well as a pro-life conference in Washington, D.C. in May, and an international summit each January.
Kathy was producer for Al Kresta’s insightful radio broadcasts, first at “Talk From the Heart” on WMUZ-FM in Detroit, and later for the syndicated “Kresta In the Afternoon” on WDEO-AM in Ann Arbor.
Kathy has previous experience as an instructor in two Detroit-area business schools: Dorsey School of Business, and Detroit Business Institute – Downriver. She worked for five years in the Office of Academic Affairs at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she pursued graduate work in Religious Studies. She earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan.
Kathy and her husband, Deacon Jerry Schiffer, are proud parents of three grown children: Jennifer, now living and working in the Detroit area; Jeffrey, an architect and entrepreneur in Greenville, South Carolina; and Jerry, a manager for Dean & DeLuca’s in Midtown Manhattan. They are members of St. Linus parish in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, where Jerry serves as deacon and pastoral associate.
