…and his stomachache went away.

Last updated on: February 10, 2012 at 3:38 pm   By Kaitlin B. Curtice

Martin Tupper once said, “Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of omnipotence.” The first time I heard this quote we were sitting at International Justice Mission’s Global Prayer Gathering. When it comes to justice, compassion, mercy, and the like, I have no problem falling to my knees in prayer, pleading on the behalf of the oppressed. Asking for healing is another matter. A few days ago, Travis had gotten sick with a horrible stomachache, and I was... Read more

Baby Dedication

ded·i·cate (via dictionary.com)    [v. ded-i-keyt; adj. ded-i-kit]  Show IPAverb, -cat·ed, -cat·ing, adjective verb (used with object) 1. to set apart and consecrate to a deity or to a sacred purpose: The ancient Greeks dedicated many shrines to Aphrodite. 2. to devote wholly and earnestly, as to some person or purpose: He dedicated his life to fighting corruption. 3. to offer formally (a book, piece of music, etc.) to a person, cause, or the like in testimony of affection or respect, as on a prefatory page. 4. (loosely) to inscribe a personal signature on (a book, drawing, etc., that is one’s own work), usually with a salutation addressing the recipient. 5. to mark the official completion or opening of (a publicbuilding, monument, highway, etc.), usually by formal ceremonies.   In how many ways can I apply these definitions to what happened today? We stood before a congregation and held our baby up, Lion King style, in a way. We called for the people who sat before us to be a part of his life, to stand in his behalf for the many years to come.   And... Read more

Lessons in the Morning

Last updated on: February 2, 2012 at 3:27 pm   By Kaitlin B. Curtice

This morning I asked Travis if he thought Eliot had sinned yet in the three months he’s been alive. The conversation that followed was much more detailed than what I had in mind. After a few minutes of deep, philosophy-packed banter, I closed my mouth and looked down at the computer screen. I just wanted a simple answer. For the almost-four years Trav and I have been married, I have known his ways of speaking and have admired how he... Read more

Slumber

Last updated on: January 25, 2012 at 5:21 pm   By Kaitlin B. Curtice

I’ve been wondering lately…when did sleep become such a priceless commodity? My body wakes every morning, craving the caffeine that only a cup of coffee can provide, though not nearly adequate enough to revive me from the five hours of wide awake, non-sleep I received the night before. Despite this restlessness, I find strength and joy in the face of my nine-week old son, who welcomes each morning with enthusiastic grinning, shrieking and cooing. He rests in the promises of... Read more

Koinonia

Last updated on: January 20, 2012 at 10:23 pm   By Kaitlin B. Curtice

Community. This morning I sat on my living room couch with Jon Eliot, reminded of a friend who is saying goodbye today to her husband for a few weeks. As I thought of her and prayed for her, I reflected on the blessing of life experienced with friends. There is nothing like sharing this “communion” with one another. Despite how unique and uncommon each of our paths appear to be, we are held together by bonds that cannot be broken... Read more

Gumption-esque Beginnings

Last updated on: January 18, 2012 at 3:40 pm   By Kaitlin B. Curtice

Gumption: initiative; aggressiveness; resourcefulness; courage; spunk; guts; common sense; shrewdness. It looks like gumption is a lot of things that I hope to call myself one day. It is now the middle of January and the new year is well on its way, time slipping past us ever so quickly. I decided to start blogging this year. I find this to be a difficult process so far, one that calls for gumption around every corner; I find myself questioning whether this... Read more
