Early April, my wait in the doctor’s office was taking longer than usual. While waiting, a woman came and sat down beside me, somewhat shakily. Introducing herself as Jen, I could feel her nervousness and despair. It wasn’t only for herself, it was also for someone she cared deeply about, someone I felt she was losing.
She turned to talk to me and said, “Boy, the place is just packed.” She went on to say she lived in Levack which was quite a distant drive from town. We chatted about the weather briefly, and I allowed the trivial conversation to work its magic building rapport. I told her that I felt her nervousness when she came in and sat down. Opening up, she told me she was there to get results of tests she had had, to discuss the illness her husband had been struggling with for a few months, and just looking for a little hope.
Her energy was clingy, though not in a bad way, only in a needful way. I invited her to call if she needed to talk, offered her an angel card reading and handed her my name and number on a card. That was when I was called into the doctor’s office for my appointment. As I walked away, she looked at me and asked, “Is my husband going to die?”
“I’m not God, Jen. I’m a Medium. It isn’t my job, nor my place to predict death,” I replied, as I pointed to the heavens with a friendly smile. I left to see the doctor and didn’t see her again.
In September of the same year, a client Jim who lives in the east end of town, came for his regular visit. We sat down for tea and as he was settling and getting comfortable, I immediately sensed an energy around him.
“There is a very strong male presence around you… this visitor’s name starts with the letter “D” but I can’t quite hear the name. He’s your neighbour coming over visiting in spirit,” I said. “His name starts with “D”, Denis, Dave, Doug for example, perhaps 48 to 50 years old, who passed away after a battle with cancer? He’s been with his life-partner for at least eight years or married in August; a woman who had recently changed her hair colour from brown to blonde maybe just within the last few days?”
He insisted, “No, I can’t think of anyone I know that fits that description living near me.” I told him that I couldn’t shake the feeling! This spirit was pretty persistent. Again, he responded that he couldn’t relate whatsoever.
After we finished our visit, I insisted he take the notes containing my scribbles about what I had felt today; just a little reminder, as I usually do. I also gave him my business card, with a message “Honey I’m Home”, something I had written on the back. I slid it into his shirt pocket and told him that someone needed this message, and that he would know who it belonged to when the time came. He looked at me funny, thanked me and then left.
At 11 PM, my phone rang. It was Jim who had been over earlier that day for his reading. Agitated and hardly containing his excitement, he said, “Jay, were you up? You’re not going to believe what I’m about to tell you, Jay! You’ll never believe what just happened!” I told him that I had just laid down, but judging by his excitement, I told him to continue on with his story.
“When I got home after seeing you, I was taking out the garbage when a young woman approached to ask about the garbage pick-up schedule in the neighborhood. She introduced herself as my new neighbour, Jen, and told me that she had just moved from Levack into the next townhouse over. She went on to say that perhaps I didn’t recognize her because she had just changed her hair colour from brown to blond a few days before. She told me that her husband, David, 48, had recently passed away after a battle with cancer. They mentioned had been married for 8 years. After his passing, she had sold her property and decided to move to the east end of the city where it would be more convenient to live. I had no clue she was my neighbour as she had moved in while I was away in British Columbia for a few weeks!”
“I’m sure she thought I was crazy as she spoke to me,” he continued. “I had this puzzled look on my face while she told me the story because I remembered the note and everything you’d said just hours earlier. I asked her if she would mind waiting while I went inside to get a message for her. I haven’t even met her and I’m suggesting I have a message for her? Sure, she thought I was crazy! All the same, she was surprised, but said okay.”
“When I came back, I looked at her and said I’d been to see a friend today who is a Medium. Her name is Jay. She received a message from your husband when I was visiting earlier today. Jay sat there and told me I have a male neighbour by the name of “D”, 48 to 50 years old who passed away of cancer recently, who had a message for his wife of eight years; a woman who just changed her hair color from brown to blond. I told Jay I didn’t have a neighbour like that, but I guess it seems that I do. Your husband had a message for you. Here is his note.”

As he handed the card to her, tears flowed as she read the note. She told him to wait a moment and went into her house. She returned only to hand him a card with my phone number on it, all the while explaining to him that she had met a lady by the name of Jay back in April at the doctor’s office, months before her husband’s passing. She went on to share that David had made a promise to her on his death bed that he would let her know that he had made it home safely and for her to watch for signs! The message was for her, this cinched it. It meant so much to her!
I was lucky enough to meet Jen a few weeks later and we talked about her David and how his insistence paid off! His message: Honey. I’m home! He sure was!
