Where are your eyes?

It’s not secret that my heart has been hurting recently over the unknowns and uncertainties with my sisters precious body and health. While there are many questions and have been many tears before the Lord, I am constantly reminded of His great care, even if it doesn’t immediately come how I think it should.

Last night I went to go hold my precious babies at the parenting class I help out with (read more about that here). I’m not gonna lie, i didn’t feel like going to volunteer, if I’m honest, the first thought through my head as I tidied my desk and left my office was,

“What difference does it make if I’m there or not? I’m sure they won’t notice if I just go home and go to sleep early!”

Thankfully my mind ruled over my feelings and half an hour later, as I walked was greeted by kisses on the cheek from my “princesses” and hugs from some of the parents. Immediately I was so grateful that I had gone.

As I was walking in the softness of the evening, the baby scent still lingering on me, my heart finally had a moment of quietness. The stillness didn’t last for long because the stories of the people I see every week flooded my mind.

-I’ve had an abortion

-I’ve suffered two miscarriages.

-My husband beats me.

-My father was never present in my life.

-I’m living at the shelter.

-I’m here because of a court order

There’s no sugar-coating it. Their lives are rough.

As I walked, the warm tears fell and the heaviness of their lives mixed with the pain that’s been on my heart over my precious sisters life and I wept. A light caught my eye and I wiped my eyes to see what it was.

The moon.

One of my favorite parts of God’s creation.

“Darling, the hands that fashioned the moon are holding your precious heart.”

The Lord sweetly whispered this reminder into my aching soul.

I am with you.

The sweet reminder that I need day by day. Moment by moment.

– I don’t have to worry myself silly over my sister’s body

– I don’t have to solve the problems of 30 precious people.

– I don’t have to worry about my little brothers salvation.

My sweet father is holding my heart and holding the world. At the same time. He’s got it all, and I can trust Him. It was such a sweet reminder of God’s care to see the moon and be reminded that He’s intimately involved in my life. Instead of focusing my eyes on my problems, my pain, my hurts, my joys…myself,  I’m glad the Lord led me to step outside of myself, serve and be reminded that this life isn’t about me. It’s okay for me to be hurting over my sister, but there is a hurting world, and I am in a relationship with the only one who can truly heal all wounds and pain. Jesus Christ.

Beloved, I urge you to lift your eyes. Lift them above your circumstances. Lift them above your pain. Lift them unto the Lord.

Meditate on Psalm 121

“I lift my eyes to the hills.

From where does my help come ?

My help comes from the Lord,

who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;

he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel

will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;

the Lord is your shade on your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;

he will keep your life.

The Lord will keep

your going out and your coming in

from this time forth and forevermore.
